The Consejo Comunal Barranco Colorado manages a total of 25 square kilometers it has 15 private parcels (hobby farms 2-10 ha.) which account for 20% (about 5 square kilometers), there are three indigenous communities and 75% of the area is managed natural forest (under 10% of the area is tillable).

Our commitment to sustainable development and the environment are important to Ekōbius and their sponsor Ecology Crossroads, which through Globcal International will help us meet our community objectives to achieve this challenge will seek to restore forest cover and landscaping to 90% as well as make clean water and sanitation available in five locations by 2030.

Adjacent to our community there is an indigenous elementary school that needs major repairs, the structure is still in tact. We have a total of 9 kilometers previously paved, gravel and dirt road from kilometer 22 to 29 connecting 35 families a total of 120 residents. We have ample water resources with a five million liter per minute river that can be navigated by canoe down to the Orinoco, excellent location for aquaculture projects. If we had the technology and equipment we could get our electricity from solar and hydro sources. We have lots of sun, 5° North of the Equator (in one of the least affected natural climate patterns), normal rainfall from April until September. We are in the Guiana Highlands not the rainforest but very close to it, the rainforest starts about 15 kilometers to the South.

Property owners of Indigena Barranco Colorado are friendly and open to negotiating to situate our community as a hospitable tourist destination where visitors can take an effortless canoe ride, visit the shaman, get to know the Huǫttųją people, explore the forest, and stay for a week at Ekōbius to help them make a better tourist accommodation.

Barranco Colorado and the surrounding ecosystem has been identified as ideal for producing cacao and other native fruit trees with agroforestry techniques. We are working with local residents to reduce manioc production for more sustainable crops. We will be seeking sponsorships and investors to help us turn around our destiny.

News: Indigena Barranco Colorado received 2 smartphones Alcatel from Arol Wright of Ekōbius in exchange for resolving the delineation of its Western property line, electric line surveying and legal services.

Vocero Omar Amaya, traveled to Caracas to visit Hon. David J. Wright founder of Ekobius, to appoint him goodwill ambassador on August 4, 2021. Wright reciprocated by treating his guest to the trip and expenses.

Concejal Amaya and Arol Wright scheduled the shipping of tools and equipment from Caracas belonging to Ekobius to Puerto Ayacucho. It was confirmed in the evening of August 06, that the shipment arrived.

Hugo Sousa, Karla Pinto, and her daughter Koralia members of Ekobius arrived August 7, 2021 to review progress on the Western perimeter fence and engage a new caretaker (mayordomo). They will be spending the week planning and making provisional repairs.

The new Consejo Comunal, Indigena Barranco Colorado to a great degree replaces most of the sector known as La Culebra, Amazonas,. We will keep our sights on the reopening a primary K-8 school for the children in La Culebra, as well as working together with all the neighboring communities.

Our community has suffered from isolation, unemployment and extreme poverty for many years. Until Ecology Crossroads established Ekōbius in 2013 and proposed the development of a 20 square kilometer carbon neutral ecovillage. This has led members of the community to seek development of new initiatives through international sponsors as an entity.

On August 06, 2021 Indigena Barranco Colorado designated Hon. David J. Wright and Globcal International the official goodwill representatives for our ecoaldea with an official decree.

They told us we needed to become an official entity to be eligible for international funding, engage in commerce or garner support, as well as to be considered tax-exempt. (We did it!) As an incorporated nationalized entity and simultaneously an entity with rights under "special indigenous laws" we shall enjoy many advantages and concessions for establishing international agreements, moreover we have earned a place on the map. One of the primary activities will be providing ecosystem services such tree planting, permaculture and ecotourism.
