On St. Croix, horse racing is not just sport. It is heritage, livelihood and a gathering place that has carried generations of Crucian pride.

St. Croix businessman Shawn “Ciga” Baptiste speaks plainly about why bringing racing back matters, not only for the horsemen and fans, but for the young men who need positive places to put their time, energy and pride.

Ciga has long believed in the future of horse racing on St. Croix, including expressing interest in developing a local track in 2022. His message is one many Crucians understand well. When our young people have something constructive to belong to, our whole community is stronger.

The Bryan-Roach Administration remains committed to a responsible path forward for the return of horse racing on St. Croix and across the Territory.

Because this is not just about racing horses. It is about restoring a piece of our culture and building something meaningful for the next generation.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. cut the ribbon Monday to open the first of two new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Innovation Centers in the Territory. The STEAM Innovation Centers, at Julius Sprauve K-8 School on St. John and Eulalie Rivera K-8 on St. Croix, will operate as state-of-the-art makerspaces equipped with equipment, tools, and technology to support a variety of STEAM-focused mini modules.
The STEAM Innovation Academy will utilize these two Innovation Centers as the primary locations for daytime field trips and Saturday academies, broadening access to STEAM education while ensuring equitable opportunities for students across the territory.
The STEAM Innovation Academy, developed through a partnership between the UVI Research and Technology Park and the Virgin Islands Department of Education, aims to serve at least 500 students.
