TURKISH NAVY 🇹🇷 | TCG ISTANBUL (F-515) FRIGATE SHIP

Turkish Navy (F515). The class of ships developed under the MILGEM national warship program as the I-class frigate ( ) is an extended version of the , with improved maneuverability, equipped with the indigenous MIDLAS vertical launch system (VLS). On January 19, 2017, the Turkish Navy held a steel-cutting ceremony for the lead ship TCG Istanbul (F 515). Istanbul was keel-laid on July 3, 2017 and launched on January 23, 2021.

JAPANESE NAVY (JMSDF) 🇯🇵 | THE MOGAMI CLASS FRIGATE - JS NIYODO (FFM-7)

On May 21, (Nagasaki, , ) delivered the Niyodo ( , FFM-7, にようど) to the Japanese Ministry of Defense. This is the seventh ship of the and the first ship to be installed with the Mk 41 vertical launch system during construction.

🚢 This 3,900-ton frigate was built under the FFM program and entered service with the 12th Es**rt Squadron of the Japanese Navy ( , Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan). This is the first unit of its type to be assigned to this important strategic base.

🔵 The order for the ship was placed in 2021, and the construction process took nearly three years. The ship cost 47.4 billion yen (about US$327 million).

🔷 The Mk 41 vertical launch system allows for the deployment of a wide range of and . The integration of this system shows that Japan is moving towards weapons systems compatible with the United States. All subsequent frigates, starting with the , will also be equipped with this system.

🔷 The weapon system includes the Mk 45 Mod 4 127 mm gun mount (BAE Systems, 🇬🇧), 2 × 12.7 mm remote control modules, SeaRAM SAM, 2 × Type 17 anti-ship missile launchers (SSM-2), torpedo tubes, submarine and mine sonar, OPY-2 multi-function radar and OAX-3 electro-optical complex.

🔵 Equipped with OZZ-5 underwater autonomous vehicle and surface drones for mine countermeasures. Generator set — CODAG (2 × MAN 12V28/33D STC diesel and 1 × MT30 gas turbine manufactured by ).

Maximum speed exceeds 30 knots, crew of about 90 people.

🔷 Six previous frigates of the same type — Mogami, Kumano, Noshiro, Mikuma, Yahagi and Agano — have been commissioned.
