🕊 WCC executive committee calls churches to work for peace

In a statement entitled “From the Proliferation of War to the Way of Just Peace: A Renewed Ecumenical Appeal,” the World Council of Churches executive committee called churches to work for peace with every means at their disposal.

“The ecumenical fellowship has spoken clearly and consistently: war is contrary to God’s will,” the statement reads. “This foundational affirmation, reaffirmed by WCC governing bodies across many decades and many contexts, is a summons to prophetic witness and courageous action.”

The statement calls on churches and religious leaders to resist and repudiate the use of misleading and irresponsible theologies to justify war wherever they appear, including within their own traditions. The statement also affirms the WCC’s continued accompaniment of member churches in all regions affected by conflict.

PACIFIC leaders have renewed a call for global peace as wars continue in Ukraine, Iran and West Papua.

Grounded in the Pacific’s Ocean of Peace Declaration, the statement called on global leaders to uphold the Charter of the United Nations.

This includes the sovereign equality of all states, and the rights of all peoples to exist in peace and security.

Declaration to Give Bougainville Independence

We, the Pangu party the founder of this great nation and leaders, stand together today with respect.

We respect the peace agreement that ended years of war. We will not forget the 20,000+ lives lost fighting for peace and for the right to choose. Their sacrifice must mean something.

We respect the three pillars of the Bougainville Peace Agreement: autonomy, weapons disposal and and referendum results consultations. We will follow them fully, not partly.

We respect the voice of the people. The people already spoke in the referendum. Now we must respect that choice through real consultation and constitutional process.

So we declare this: The time for more delays is over.
We will stop talking and start doing.
We will honor the agreement, complete the process, and give Bougainville the right to freedom and self-determination.

This is not about politics. This is about keeping our word, respecting peace, and letting a people direct their own future.

A court in Paris has dropped all charges against pro-independence Kanak leader Christian Téin and 13 others in their alleged role in the May 2024 civil unrest in New Caledonia.

In announcing their ruling on Friday to French national media, the panel of judges said they had based their decision on "insufficient" evidence (amounting to a "no case to answer") for all of the 14 accused.
