The Office of the Auditor-General in Vanuatu was established and governed by Article 25 of the Constitution of the Republic of Vanuatu and the Expenditure Review and Audit Act 1998 [cap.241] (Act 3/98) as amended in 2000 (36/2000).

Our office is thrilled to welcome Elsie Daniel (left) and Judith Iauma (right) from Vanuatu, two brilliant Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation International Fellows. Joined here by our very own AG, Denise Hanrahan (centre), we are delighted to have them join our office and look forward to learning together, sharing knowledge, ideas, and unique perspectives. Please join us in giving them the most beautiful Newfoundland and Labrador (and Canadian !!) welcome.

The Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation is a non‑profit organization dedicated to promoting and strengthening public sector audit, oversight, and accountability here at home and abroad through research, education, and knowledge sharing. In the Fellowship part of their program, senior auditors from participating institutions work with Canadian audit offices and are immersed in performance auditing and accountability practices.

The Vanuatu National Audit Office (VNAO) proudly announces that staff members Elsie Daniel and Judith Iauma have begun a six month Fellowship placement with a Canadian audit office through the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation (CAAF). They join Fellows from other Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) selected for this international capacity building programme under the Governance, Accountability, and Transparency for Inclusive Public Services (GATIPS) initiative.
Funded by the Government of Canada and delivered by CAAF, the GATIPS programme aim to strengthens the capabilities of SAIs in developing countries by strengthening performance auditing, advancing gender equality, and promoting accountability and good governance in the country and the region.
The placement offers practical, hands on experience across Canadian audit offices, enhancing participants’ competencies in performance auditing. Each Fellow completes a dedicated audit project and receives ongoing technical guidance from an assigned mentor throughout the Fellowship.
On behalf of the Government and the citizens of the Republic of Vanuatu, the Vanuatu National Audit Office extends its sincere appreciation to CAAF and the Government of Canada for their continued support and commitment to this initiative.

The Vanuatu National Audit Office extends its congratulations to Ms. Daniel who has been awarded the Prestigious Public Service Medal in recognition of her unwavering service to the Government of Vanuatu. Elsie Daniel has served Vanuatu Government for over 23 years.

Vanuatu National Audit Bids Farewell to Sandra Garae today 12 September 2025 – Audit Manager Compliance Audit & Investigation, IDI Certified SAI Auditor in Financial Audit, Compliance Audit and Performance. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to this Office and the Vanuatu Government. Sandra has been a valuable team member in leading and managing audits in the Public Sector. She has also engaged in many other senior responsibilities and duties within the Audit Office and the Government. Your positive energy, ideas, advice, teamwork and support will be cherished by us all. Your expertise in leading audits and willingness to always help out have made a remarkable difference to the VNAO team. As you embark on your new journey, we all give our best wishes to you and your good family this time forward.

Further, we say goodbye to Henry McGregor – FSG Technical Advisor as he leaves Port Vila today to return to his home country.

Finally, Kimberley Mina Stephens Cadet Officer whose contract will end on 19 September 2025 has been attached to VNAO for work experience. The Canada Audit and Accountability Foundation (CAAF) is visiting the Vanuatu National Audit Office this week to select a potential candidate for its Performance Audit Mentorship Program. VNAO Expresses Gratitude to MALFFB

Vanuatu National Audit Office (VNAO) had the opportunity to personally thank the Director General of MALFFB and the Director of Livestock for their generosity in accommodating our team after the 7.3 earthquake that struck Port Vila in December 2024. Their support ensured that we could continue our work during this challenging time.

As we move forward, our team will now be relocating to the Joint Court building, which has been assigned to us by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

We extend our sincere appreciation to MALFFB for their kindness and hospitality. Thank you for standing with us!
