Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu maintain a longstanding diplomatic relationship rooted in shared Melanesian identity, regional cooperation, and mutual interests in the Pacific.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Port Vila this week for the construction of Papua New Guinea’s new High Commission Chancery. This marks a significant step in consolidating diplomatic presence and engagement between the two countries.

The Government of Vanuatu has committed land for the chancery site and allocated VT100 million toward its construction. This contribution reflects Vanuatu’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting PNG’s diplomatic operations in Port Vila.

In response, Prime Minister James Marape announced that Papua New Guinea will provide land and equivalent support to facilitate the establishment of a Vanuatu High Commission in Port Moresby. This reciprocal arrangement is intended to ensure balanced diplomatic representation.

The coordinated investment in diplomatic infrastructure by both governments demonstrates a mutual commitment to deepening PNG-Vanuatu relations and institutionalizing long-term bilateral cooperation.
