The Department of Industry Vanuatu was proud to participate in the Small Island Mini Agriculture Show (SIMAS) held at Tongariki Buninga Area Council under the theme “Promote Local and Community Resilience.” This theme strongly aligns with the Department’s mandate of promoting value addition, supporting local industries, and creating sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities.

During the event, the Department established an information booth to increase awareness and visibility of its vision, services, and development programs available to the people of the Shepherds Islands. Community members were also introduced to a range of Vanuatu Made products and opportunities for local value-added production that can generate income and strengthen livelihoods.

As part of its support to SIMAS and in response to the needs expressed by local fishermen, the Department of Industry installed two solar freezers on the islands within the Tongariki Buninga Area Council. Training was also delivered on fish handling, packaging, and vacuum sealing, enabling fishermen to preserve and prepare quality products for markets on Tongoa and beyond. More importantly, these facilities will help communities become more resilient by ensuring access to healthy food during off-seasons and periods of rough weather when fishing activities are limited.

The Department remains committed to empowering rural communities through innovation, value addition, and sustainable industry development.

Launching of the Tongoa Handicraft House and Meat Supplier Centre

Today marks an important milestone for the people of Tongoa as we celebrate the official opening of the Tongoa Handicraft House and Meat Supplier Centre.

This initiative creates new opportunities for local artisans, farmers, fishers, and entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products while generating income for their families and communities. The Handicraft House will offer a variety of locally made products, including woven baskets, mats, necklaces, accessories, and island dresses that reflect the rich culture and traditions of Tongoa.

The Meat Supplier Centre will provide access to a range of quality local products, including poultry, pork, beef, fish, and shellfish, supporting food security and strengthening local livelihoods.

This launch represents more than just the opening of a new facility—it is an investment in the economic development of Tongoa, empowering communities, creating employment opportunities, and promoting local products for future generations.

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to making this vision a reality. May this center continue to bring prosperity and growth to the people of Tongoa for many years to come.

Quality Matters! Made in Vanuatu means something.

Our people take their time. They use real materials, real skill, and real care — the kind that doesn't cut corners because reputation matters more than a quick sale.

And it starts long before the finished product. Quality ingredients in, quality product out. That's not a slogan — that's just how it works.

Next time you're choosing between imported and local, remember: Vanuatu Made isn't just good enough. It's worth it.
