The recent reports of increasing child abuse cases across Shefa Province are deeply concerning.

As a ministry, we have spoken many times about the challenges facing our young people. We have talked about broken homes, absent fathers, violence, substance abuse, lack of direction, and the struggles many children and teenagers face every day. Sadly, this latest report reminds us that these issues are very real and are affecting some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

What is particularly alarming is that neglect remains one of the most common forms of abuse, while cases of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse continue to rise. Even more concerning is the reality that many cases are never reported.

Children are a gift from God, not a burden. They deserve to be loved, protected, guided, and given the opportunity to grow up in safe and caring environments.

As Chains to Life Ministries, we are concerned for the future of our young people. We see the effects of these issues in the communities we work in, and it strengthens our conviction that the Gospel is desperately needed. While practical support and intervention are important, true and lasting change begins when hearts are transformed by Jesus Christ.

Please join us in praying for the children of Vanuatu, for families that are struggling, for those working to protect vulnerable children, and for our communities as a whole.

"Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed." — Psalm 82:3

Last night out in the Chiko community was simple, honest and encouraging. We sat down with a group of young men and spoke about leadership and responsibility — not just talking about change, but actually making small good choices each day that shape the future over time.

We challenged the guys to understand that things do not always change overnight. A community changes when individuals start taking responsibility for their own lives one day at a time. The choices made today will affect where they are in 5 or 10 years, and because of that, these young men are the future of their community.

There were good conversations, laughter, fellowship and a real openness among the guys. These moments matter. Sometimes missions is simply showing up consistently, listening, encouraging and pointing people toward truth and purpose.

A big thank you as well to the missionaries from V2 Life for joining us and spending time with the young men. We are grateful for their willingness to come alongside us and invest into these communities.

Please continue to pray for the young men of Chiko — for wisdom, direction, strong leadership and hearts that would truly seek after Christ.

Bible study today out in the Chiko community was a challenging but important one. We spent time studying the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit according to Scripture.

For many, the Holy Spirit has often been spoken about through emotions, experiences, or things people have been told… but very few have actually sat down and studied what God’s Word truly says about Him.

We looked at how the Holy Spirit points people to Christ, convicts of sin, gives understanding of God’s Word, helps believers grow in holiness, and strengthens us to live obedient lives. The focus was not on hype or confusion, but on truth.

These studies are not always easy. There are many different teachings and strong opinions out there, so it takes patience, humility, and careful study of Scripture together. But this is why discipleship matters. People need to know not just what they have heard, but what the Bible actually teaches.

Please continue praying for the Chiko community. The hunger to learn is there, the questions are real, and step by step the light of God’s truth is shining in a dark place.

Out in the Chiko community again today

Once again, Nurse Kathie and the missionaries spent the day serving the community in practical and meaningful ways. From helping people with reading glasses, to cleaning and treating wounds, to simply sitting, listening and encouraging people — it was another beautiful day of ministry in a place that truly needs the love and truth of Christ.

The guys spent time playing football with the young boys, laughing and building friendships, while the ladies sat with the women of the community, talking, encouraging and sharing life together. Sometimes missions is not only preaching from a pulpit, but faithfully showing up week after week, loving people where they are.

Today was the last day these missionaries will be joining us before they head off to another island for a time. As a ministry, we are deeply grateful for them coming out faithfully over the past few weeks. Their willingness to serve in the heat, dust and challenges of bush ministry has meant a lot to both us and the community.

Please continue to pray for the people of Chiko. Pray that hearts would be opened to the Gospel, that relationships would continue to grow, and that God would use every conversation, every wound cleaned, every football game and every act of kindness for His glory.

Awesome Sunday out in the bush today 🙌

We had a full house and were blessed to have missionaries from V2 Life join us. They led worship, spent time with the community, and shared a beautiful Fijian dance which everyone loved.

Bobby preached from James 1 on being more than just hearers of the Word, but doers also. In a place where many have heard about God, the challenge is allowing His Word to truly change how we live every day.

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only…” — James 1:22

Afterwards we enjoyed fellowship together over biscuits and juice, spending time encouraging one another and building relationships.

Overall, just an awesome Sunday together. Please keep praying for this community and for the Gospel to continue taking root in hearts.

The last few days out in the bush have been full of both joy and heartbreak.

Sunday church was powerful as Bobby preached on what true discipleship really means — denying yourself, picking up your cross daily, and following Jesus Christ. A convicting message, but one that needed to be preached. Following Jesus is not about comfort, it is about surrender.

Monday was clinic day. The young missionaries spent time playing games with the kids and shared the story of Noah through a skit which the community absolutely loved. Alongside that, sores were cleaned, blood pressures and sugar levels checked, and many people were cared for practically and spiritually.

One situation was especially difficult. A woman had been badly beaten by her husband. Nurse Kathie and Maggie were incredible — not only treating her wounds but sitting with her, talking with her, comforting her, and praying for her. We are deeply thankful for godly women willing to step into painful situations with compassion and truth.

The reality is that these are dark places. Domestic violence, fear, broken homes, and false teaching are very real. And while practical help matters, the only thing that will truly change hearts and communities is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Week after week Bobby continues going back to teach God’s Word, even when it is hard and emotionally heavy. But this is what missions is about — going into difficult places with the light of Christ.

Tuesday Bible study was another encouragement as the group started learning who the Holy Spirit truly is according to Scripture. We had to go slowly because of years of false teaching, but the hunger to learn was there and the questions kept coming.

Please pray for this community.
Pray for truth, repentance, healing, and for Christ to be made known in these dark places.

Today’s Bible study was one of the most challenging studies we have done so far — studying the attributes of God. We covered 11 attributes, from the love, mercy, and truth of God to His omnipotence, omniscience, immutability, and more.

What made it especially challenging is that everything was translated into Bislama as we went, slowing things down but also helping everyone truly think deeply about who God is and what His Word teaches.

But what an encouragement today was.

After an hour, nobody wanted to stop. The students wanted more. Questions kept coming. The discussion kept growing. What was meant to be a one-hour Bible study ended up becoming two hours, including a long Q&A afterwards.

That in itself says something powerful. People are hungry for truth. Hungry to understand God rightly. Hungry to know what the Bible actually says.

In a place where there has been so much confusion and shallow teaching, the light of God’s truth is slowly beginning to shine in the darkness.

Please continue praying for wisdom, clarity, and faithful teaching as we walk through God’s Word together week by week. To God alone be the glory.

Another good day out at the Chiko Community Clinic today. We had a great turnout from the community and were able to help in a number of ways. Children and some of the mamas were dewormed, sores and wounds were cleaned and treated, and blood sugar and blood pressure readings were taken throughout the day.

Alongside the medical side, the missionaries spent time with the community telling stories, playing football with the kids, and playing worship music together. These moments matter just as much — building relationships, encouraging one another, and simply spending time together.

Our gentleman with the serious foot wound and high sugar readings had a small setback this week. His sugar levels were back up to 11, but thankfully this can still be controlled through proper diet and care. His wound is healing, although not as quickly as we had hoped. But if there’s one thing we know about Nurse Kathie, it’s that she does not give up easily. She will keep going until this man is healthy again, and we are incredibly thankful for her dedication and compassion toward this community.

All in all, it was a really good day. Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for these communities, the medical work, and the relationships being built week by week. Please continue to pray that through all of this, Christ would be made known.

Today at church we walked through Galatians and looked at the clear difference between the fruit of the flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit. It was not an easy message to preach in light of the domestic violence problems we are facing in the wider community, and especially after the heartbreaking murder of a woman by her husband.

But this is exactly why God’s Word must be preached clearly and truthfully in difficult times.

The works of the flesh bring destruction — anger, hatred, drunkenness, violence, jealousy, and selfishness destroy families, communities, and lives. But the Spirit of God produces something completely different in a person: love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The Gospel does not just change what we say on a Sunday. It changes how a man treats his wife, how parents treat their children, how we speak to one another, and how we live when nobody is watching.

Please continue praying for this community. There is pain, brokenness, and confusion, but there is also a desperate need for the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that hearts would be convicted, that men would repent, that families would be restored, and that Christ would be glorified even in the middle of difficult situations.

“Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” — Galatians 5:24
