Members of the public are reminded that the importation and sale of honey and all bee products into Samoa remain STRICTLY PROHIBITED under the Bee and Bee Products Prohibition Order 1999 and the Quarantine (Biosecurity) Act 2005.

From the Border to the Lab — MAF Biosecurity Samoa Levels Up with GEF7 Investment🙌.

Today marks an important milestone for Biosecurity Samoa as we received a significant handover of critical equipment in support of our biosecurity laboratory currently under development at our main Biosecurity office at Matautu. These tools are a vital part of our ongoing efforts to establish a fully functional diagnostic laboratory that will strengthen Samoa's capacity to detect, identify, and respond to biosecurity threats at the border and beyond.

The equipment — including cold storage units for specimen and sample integrity, digital tablets for frontline field data collection, laptops for data management and analysis, and a large-format interpretative and display system for operational coordination and specimen visualization and examination — represents a meaningful step forward in building a fit-for-purpose diagnostic and surveillance capability for Samoa.

At Biosecurity Samoa, we understand that effective border protection does not end at inspection. It requires the tools, the systems, and the technical capacity to accurately detect, identify, and respond to exotic pests and invasive species threats — before they establish and cause irreversible harm to our agriculture, food security, and natural ecosystems.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the GEF7 Samoa IAS Project, administered by the Division of Environment and Conservation under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), for their collaboration and investment in strengthening Samoa's national biosecurity system. The handover was conducted by Mr Su'emalo Tumutalie Foliga, ACEO for the Division of Environment and Conservation, on behalf of MNRE and the GEF7 IAS Project, and received by Mr Tagaloa Tanumafili Seuao, Acting ACEO for Biosecurity, on behalf of MAF Biosecurity Samoa. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to protecting what matters most to Samoa.

There is more work ahead — and we look forward to it.

Samoa Biosecurity congratulates its newest member, Ms. Luaipouomalo Jannine Auvele of Vaivase Tai, Saanapu and Vaoala on graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the National University of Samoa.

Luaipouomalo recently joined the public service as an Assistant Biosecurity Officer. Her achievement is a vital contribution to Samoa's biosecurity efforts, helping to protect agriculture, the environment, and the economy.

Her academic success is recognized as a key step in safeguarding Samoa's future and we look forward to her future contributions.
