🇩🇪 Yesterday, the German Bundestag renewed the mandate for the German KFOR contingent for another year.

As one of the original contributors, Germany has been steadfast in supporting KFOR since its inception in 1999—providing personnel, expertise, and leadership. Our commitment to Kosovo’s security and the broader stability of the Western Balkans remains unwavering. Together, we continue to work towards a peaceful future. 🇩🇪🤝🇽🇰

The Heads of Mission of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, United States and the European Union had the pleasure of being hosted by Commander of KFOR General Özkan ULUTAŞ today. On this day, 12 June, we remember the vital intervention carried out by NATO forces in 1999 to halt the humanitarian catastrophe that was unfolding in Kosovo, and the men and women who have served and in some cases lost their lives to provide a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo. We honour them and commit our continued efforts to support the EU-facilitated Dialogue towards a sustainable political solution for the benefit of all in Kosovo and across the region.

🕊️ The stories we tell about the past shape the possibilities we create for the future.

The joint and Training of Trainers Academy on reporting on the past and conflict sensitive journalism came to a close this week and our Head of Culture and press, Catalina Heine, had the honor of addressing the newly graduated trainers.

It has been a pleasure seeing our trusted partners work closely on equipping journalists with important knowledge and skills to carry forward the responsibility of balanced and informative reporting on the past. Conflict sensitive journalism doesn’t just inform the public - it is the key to building the necessary understanding to move from conflict to reconciliation. 🇩🇪🤝 🇽🇰

“Effective small arms control is not only about laws and statistics - it is about changing behaviour and making communities safer.” 🛡️

Deputy Ambassador Christian Böttcher, together with the French Ambassador, attended the 15th Local Roadmap Coordination Meeting on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Control on 9 June 2026 in Prishtina. 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇽🇰

Chaired by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the meeting brought together key institutional and international partners to review progress, address remaining challenges, and define priorities for the next phase of the Roadmap. 🤝

Deputy Ambassador Böttcher highlighted the Roadmap as one of the most successful examples of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, a model increasingly recognized beyond the region. Tangible progress across Kosovo, from strengthened institutions to awareness campaigns such as “Festo me Zemer,” demonstrates the impact of joint efforts.

Germany remains firmly committed as a strong partner in advancing this shared agenda. 🇩🇪🤝🇽🇰

10 years of connecting people across the Western Balkans 🇽🇰 🇦🇱 🇧🇦 🇲🇪🇲🇰 🇷🇸

What started as a child of the Berlin Process has become one of the region’s biggest success stories: Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO).

For a decade, RYCO has enabled tens of thousands of exchanges, encounters and new connections of young people across the region:
creating friendships,
strengthening dialogue
and positively influencing many participants along the way. 🤝

From 4–7 June, participants from across the Western Balkans gathered in Montenegro for the RYCO Youth Forum and also celebrated 10 years of regional cooperation and exchange. 🇲🇪

Congratulations to RYCO on this important milestone and to everyone who has contributed to building stronger regional ties over the past decade. 💙

🇩🇪📚 The Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA) Visit to Kosovo

From 30 May to 2 June 2026, Dr. Dehning, ZfA Regional Advisor, visited four partner schools in Kosovo:

🏫 Loyola Gymnasium Association, Prizren
🏫 German Gymnasium of Technology, Prishtina
🏫 German School of Kosova, Prishtina
🏫 Eqrem Çabej Gymnasium, Prishtina

The visit provided an opportunity for valuable exchanges with school leaders, teachers, and students, highlighting the strong commitment to German-language education and international cooperation. 🤝

🎓 A special highlight was the ceremonial presentation of the IVA-2 certificates at the German School of Kosova and Eqrem Çabej Gymnasium.

Thank you to all schools for the warm welcome, engaging discussions, and continued dedication to educational excellence and partnership. 🇩🇪🤝🇽🇰

“The European Union must show that it is capable and willing to enlarge.” 🇪🇺
Chancellor Friedrich Merz

At the EU–Western Balkans summit on Friday in Tivat 🇲🇪, the future of the Western Balkans in the European Union was clearly at the center.

Germany is advocating renewed momentum in the enlargement process, with concrete steps toward gradual integration of the Western Balkans into EU structures and the European single market.

This includes, among other things, closer involvement in EU institutions, greater participation in European programs, as well as initiatives such as SEPA integration.

The message from Tivat 🇲🇪:
EU enlargement is not a distant promise, but a shared strategic task for Europe’s future. 🇩🇪 🤝 🇽🇰 🇦🇱 🇧🇦 🇲🇪🇲🇰 🇷🇸

🌈 Pride Week in Pristina 🌈

Last week, we followed a range of events throughout Pristina Pride Week and proudly joined Friday’s Pride Parade in support of the LGBTIQ community in 🇽🇰.

LGBTIQ rights are human rights 🏳️‍🌈. Upholding them means rejecting hate speech and discrimination, while ensuring equal access to healthcare, civil registration, and representation.

Germany remains committed to advancing equality for all. Everyone deserves respect and dignity, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Even though Pristina Pride Week 2026 is now sadly over, we continue to stand with pride and for human rights all year long.
Pride for all! 🏳️‍🌈🤝🇩🇪🤝🇽🇰
