The front porch floor is complete. It looks like a ballroom! It will be beautiful once railings and trim are installed.

The bannister refinishing is incredibly detailed. Each baluster is removed, hand sanded and stained. There are three different balusters on each step - a detail I had not previously noticed.

Restoring the staircase to the original finish is a very intricate process. Many weeks were spent hand sanding the balusters and handrail. It took mixing several stains to arrive at a color closest to the original stain on the wall paneling. It also requires the patience of Job to work on this project day after day! Thanks to Chris’ dedication the project will soon be completed.

Chris has been meticulously scraping and sanding the grand staircase bannister which will be stained over the next few weeks. “Before” photos are a reminder of the abuse this grande dame withstood over the decades.

Cleaning up moulding in the dining room. I love the floor detail.

These trespassers dumped a pickup truck full of garbage in the dumpster, trespassed on the porch and took a window in broad daylight. Too stupid to cover their licence plate which will hopefully help the police locate them. Does Any local follower recognize these people?

An amazing Marketplace find. Early 1900’s Jacobean Revival The buffet will be perfect in the dining room. It needs only minor buffing up.

This is by far the most difficult refinishing job I’ve ever done. The original finish comes off like black tar. I think there are several layers of shellac also. In retrospect maybe I should have opted for painting it black! I have removed the doors for refinishing.

UPDATE: I’ve tweeked the wall color a bit. Now to decide should I match chairs to the sofa or the gold border on the rug? I’m leaning toward matching the sofa with a derp rose brocade to keep tones down. Back in storage it goes!

This rug has been in storage for 2 years! I’m thrilled with my vision for this room.
