Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital's new acute services building will open to patients on Wednesday 28 October 2026.

The centrepiece of our $440 million redevelopment is about to enter its commissioning phase, with teams working on finishing touches like stocking supplies, testing equipment and staff orientation to be ready to start delivering care from the new facility.

Anyone who’s ever moved house will understand the massive logistics involved in this transition, but we are all super excited!

While there is a lot happening behind the scenes, the current hospital will continue to operate as usual with minimal disruption to patients.

We'll also be announcing details of a Community Open Day very soon.

As NSW continues to respond to detections of H5 avian influenza, we are reminding the community to stay informed and follow the latest advice from NSW Biosecurity.

ℹ️ Find out more about H5 bird flu, signs to look for and how to report: https://www.dpird.nsw.gov.au/.../animal.../avian-influenza

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to report sick or dead birds and wildlife. Your vigilance plays an important role in helping protect NSW from H5 bird flu and maintaining strong surveillance across the state.

🔍 If you see sick or dead birds or wildlife:

🚫 Avoid contact with animals and their surroundings
📝 Record what you see, including the date and location
📞 Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888

✅ Every report is carefully reviewed by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD) and assessed based on factors such as the species involved, the number of animals affected, the location, and the likelihood of disease risk.

🧪 While not every report will result in animals being collected or tested, every report contributes to our understanding of wildlife health across NSW. In some cases, you may be contacted for more information. Where a report is assessed as higher risk, birds may be collected for further investigation and testing.

🎯 This targeted approach ensures our attention is focused where it is needed most while maintaining strong surveillance for H5 bird flu across all of NSW.

🤝 The NSW Government has been preparing for a potential H5 bird flu incursion for several years and continues to work closely with governments across Australia to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities.

🛡️ Strong biosecurity starts with awareness. By staying alert and reporting anything unusual, you can help protect NSW's wildlife, environment, communities and industries.
