Comal County let's be safe at Canyon Lake!

This past weekend our deputies were on lake patrol when they responded to a medical emergency. Deputies learned that a young person jumped off the cliffs at Comal Park and landed on another swimmer. One subject had a minor injury and another was transported to a local hospital after Deputy Nichols got him to shore.

Be sure to:
✅ follow all signage on shore
❌ never jump when depths and objects under water are unknown
❌ never swim alone
✅ always wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket if not a strong swimmer

Thank you to the Comal County Sheriff's Office and Texas Game Wardens lake patrol units for their assistance.

We'll be out on the lake all summer. We need your partnership to help keep everyone safe. If you see unsafe activity or someone in need of help, please call dispatch at 830-620-3400.

Welcome to the team AGAIN Deputy Neely!

Deputy Neely was recently approved by the Comal County Commissioners Court to transition from a reserve status to a full time deputy. His expertise and experience will be utilized on a daily basis now!

He began his law enforcement career in 1989 in the United States Air Force as a Security Police Explosives K9 handler. In 2005 Neely started with the City of New Braunfels Fire Department as a fire investigator after completing the Alamo Area Law Enforcement Academy. He retired in 2018 when he started as a reserve with Comal County Sheriff's Office.
He then joined our office in 2021 under the leadership of Comal County Constable Pct. 1 Charlie Motz.

Neely is a second generation lawman after his his father served 40 years in law enforcement.

Great to have you sir!

Today we remember and honor. Let us never forget.

Today we honor those law enforcement professionals who have died in the line of duty.

In 2025 we experienced 8 officer deaths in Texas, down from 17 the year prior. This year, 2026, we have had four in Texas and 40 nationwide.

Of the 8 in 2025, 5 of them were crash related. Let this be a reminder for us all to "slow down, move over" when we see an officer on the side of the road.

Today we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community, and we honor those who carry the torch for those who have gone before us.

Tomorrow, May 15th, is International Water Safety Day.

As temperatures (finally) heat up and we get ready for swim season, be sure to select swimsuit colors that contrast from the body of water so as to be easily seen by lifeguards and caregivers.

Do your part, be water smart!

✅It all begins with learning to swim!
-Swim lessons teach skills you need to enjoy the water safely, no matter the age.
✅Swim as a pair near a lifeguard's chair.
-Never swim alone.
✅Look before you leap.
-Be sure that it's a safe place and time to swim.
✅Don't just pack it, wear your life jacket.
-All boaters should wear U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets. Inexperienced swimmers should wear them in or around water.
✅Reach or throw, don't go!
-Reach or throw an object to help someone in trouble in the water to safety. Never go in the water to try to help.

Learn the safety steps then take the pledge at poolsafely.gov.

We'll be out and about this summer on Canyon Lake and hope to see everyone enjoying themselves safely.
