Well it wasn’t to be in the end, but a massive thank you to St Helens Borough Labour for the opportunity, to every single one of those 1100 people who voted for me and most importantly the great memories the good people of Rainford have given me from the campaign. Red and Blue alike, my wife Grace and I had a ball, chatting about all sorts of topics. I wish the very best to the village and congratulations to John Case and Linda Mussell on their victory. Meantime, its chocks away and onwards and upwards ……

Well that was a wrap last night, as the film people say. A few weeks of me and my superstar wife and constant support, walking around Rainford campaigning. We’ve both enjoyed ourselves, I can honestly say, win or not today, it’s been great to talk to local residents about concerns and all sorts of other important issues, like whether Saints will make it four in a row - of course they will!

Well I’m quite flattered that the opposition would give over a whole leaflet to talk about me, but really … where I live! Is that the best they can do?
I would with all respect point out that their retiring Councillor lives at a place almost equidistant from the village as I do!
I have served what I regard as my town in a VOLUNTARY capacity for nearly 3 years, leading a successful Board in securing 25 million pounds from Government. I lead on several projects to benefit the Borough, again in a voluntary capacity.
I work in the Borough in the Standing Tall Foundation, a charity established by Andy Reid MBE and myself to provide mental health and addiction support to the community.
I have lived in Rainford for over a decade and my present address is temporary, literally a mile over the border. I will be moving back.
I use Rainford businesses, eat out in Rainford and socialise.
My family live in Rainford and oh just for good measure I picked my Grandchildren up from Rainford CofE this afternoon.

Another marathon trip around Rainford today. I have to say a big thank you to Mrs T for plodding on with my leaflets, whilst I stop talking to residents. She’s probably done twice the deliveries I have!
Win or not on Thursday it’s been a great experience getting to talk to the community and find out about the concerns residents have. Come across some old faces who I’ve not spoken to in a while, so great to catch up as well.

Another successful morning on the campaign trail with Mrs T as always. Plenty of positive support for St Helens Borough Labour encountered and unfortunately for the village, stories of Tory neglect.
Take the photos below, they show the scene outside and the litter issue caused by inadequate bins in the village centre. This problem has been repeatedly brought to the attention of current Tory Councillors, who have singularly failed to do anything about it.
Likewise I was talking to a Lady this morning who has repeatedly asked her Tory Councillor to meet with her and several of her neighbours, to discuss a parking issue on her avenue. This problem is a cause of real concern to her and her neighbours and she feels they have been simply ignored as the Councillor has failed to meet with them.
These are real issues for the residents of the Village and ones I will immediately look to address if elected. In fact I told the Lady in question I’ll look into the parking issue for her, elected or not.

Another great couple of hours canvassing and leafleting clocked up in the sunshine. Enjoyed talking with local residents in Rainford.
Not seen a pigeon loft in a long time, but came across one this afternoon whilst chatting with a Lady in her garden. Great to see these old traditional hobbies still around, when I was a lad, there were loads of them.
During this leafleting campaign, I’ve found fresh respect for the British postie. Some of these modern letterboxes are vicious and at times almost at floor level. They should get Hero status too.
Winding down now with Mrs T in the for a well earned drink and Friday meal.
