My prayers and condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the demise of his beloved mother early today. The grief of losing one’s parent is inconsolable. I wish you strength.

The rare glimpse of Your Excellency and mother we see often, displaying purest love, and her strength and values in you, was an inspiration for all of us.

But like the love and blessings of all mothers, I believe that her prayers will always remain with Your Excellency. May her soul find eternal peace.

After a hiatus of two long years, the whole nation will come alive in music, colours and radiance as celebrations of the momentous 115th National Day take place in all 20 Dzongkhags and beyond tomorrow.

This year’s national day is extraordinary, as we successfully come out of the pandemic after two muted years, with renewed purpose and conviction.

Like you all, I am also overwhelmed with happiness as we usher in a revitalising and purposeful day. I hear families and friends have already gathered in a joyful reunion to witness the festivities.

We are a country blessed with the presence of our benevolent Monarchs, the founders of a nation that is Drukyul. As gratitude springs from our soul, we celebrate our being as a Bhutanese, our values, our culture and identity.

More now than ever, this gratitude we feel for our leaders and forefathers today must become the catalyst for action and change. His Majesty is steering the nation to scale greater heights, and it is upon us, as citizens of this wonderful kingdom, to indubitably honour the noble aspirations.

We will hear the Royal address, we will imbibe every essence, and we will take inspiration. Of all, we will act! To all the fellow Bhutanese here and abroad, wishing you a memorable national day.

Palden Drukpa Gyalo!

Dr Lotay Tshering

115th National Day of Bhutan

12/12/2022

For all the Bhutanese, no other day is more pertinent than the National Day to introspect our existence on this earth as the people of this nation. And no other time is more pressing than now, as we witness the reform initiatives of such magnitude, that too with incomprehensible urgency.

But most important of all, where do we go from here? It is not that Bhutan has not seen challenges and issues over the 115 years. The Kings and people of those times rose to the occasion and fought relentlessly to curtail the problems. It is our turn now. If we follow the Royal command and implement every word and intent, the outcome is an obvious success. That was clearly visible during the pandemic.

Until now, we have been only shouldering responsibilities according to our strength and limits. The time has now come for us to muster all our efforts to unconditionally carry the weight of responsibilities that will come our way with reforms.
