Monitoring of Outcomes-Based Education Implementation in Sibay and Caluya Islands, Antique

The Department of Education Region VI – Curriculum and Learning Management Division and the Schools Division Office of Antique conducted a monitoring activity on the implementation of Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) in the island communities of Sibay and Caluya.

The activity was held on June 8, 2026, in Sibay Island and June 9, 2026, in Caluya Island, Caluya, Antique, with the participation of Dr. Athea V. Landar of DepEd Region VI. Also present were key SDO Antique personnel, including Dr. Rodrigo Sarapanan, Education Program Supervisor (MAPEH); Dr. Jezreel Bantolo, Education Program Supervisor (EPP-TLE); and Dr. Benjie Alejo, Principal-in-Charge of the District of Caluya.

The monitoring visit provided an opportunity to witness firsthand how OBE is being conducted and implemented in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. It highlighted the innovative practices and strong commitment of educators in ensuring quality education despite challenging conditions.

Engagements with learners, teachers, and school heads revealed powerful stories of perseverance and dedication. Many shared the daily struggles they face—ranging from limited resources to long and difficult journeys just to reach school. Despite these hardships, the school communities continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience and unwavering commitment to learning.

The activity underscored the importance of sustained support for island schools and reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to making education accessible and meaningful for all learners, regardless of location.

This monitoring initiative serves as both an assessment and an inspiration, emphasizing that even in the most remote communities, quality education can thrive through collective dedication and effort.

Monitoring of School Opening in the 5th Congressional District of Iloilo

The Department of Education Regional Office VI, in collaboration with the Schools Division of Iloilo, conducted monitoring activities in selected schools within the 5th Congressional District to assess the readiness of schools for the opening of School Year 2026–2027 on June 8, 2026.

The visit commenced with the First Flag Raising Ceremony, which highlighted the strong support of the local community for education. The activity was attended by the Municipal Mayors, Vice Mayors, Sangguniang Bayan Members, representatives from the PNP, LTO, DOH, PTA officers, and other education partners, demonstrating a collective commitment to ensuring a safe, orderly, and successful opening of classes.

The monitoring team assessed key areas of school readiness, including Facilities Readiness, where classrooms, learning spaces, water and sanitation facilities, and school safety measures were found to be generally prepared for learners. In terms of Instructional Readiness, teachers were ready with learning plans, classroom routines, learning resources, and Opening Block activities designed to support learners' smooth transition into the new school year.

The team likewise reviewed Governance and Operations, focusing on enrollment status, learner attendance, resource management, school coordination mechanisms, and stakeholder engagement. School leaders and teachers actively shared their experiences, best practices, and challenges encountered during the opening of classes.

Critical issues and concerns identified during the monitoring were openly discussed with school personnel and stakeholders. Immediate actions and practical solutions were initiated by the schools, with technical assistance provided by the Regional and Division monitoring teams to ensure that concerns are addressed promptly and that learning continuity remains uninterrupted.
The monitoring activity underscored the importance of collaboration among schools, local government units, parents, and community partners in creating a learner-centered, safe, and enabling environment where every child is supported to succeed. Through shared accountability and responsive leadership, schools in the 5th Congressional District continue to demonstrate their commitment to delivering quality education for all.

𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 | DepEd Region VI Director Eco, Asst. Director Aposin Mark Historic Visit at Leon NHS Opening of School Year 2026–2027

LEON, Iloilo — Leon National High School (LNHS) officially opened School Year 2026–2027 on June 8 with a flag-raising ceremony and opening program held at the school gymnasium, highlighted by the historic visit of Department of Education (DepEd) Region VI Regional Director Dr. Cristito A. Eco, CESO III, and Assistant Regional Director Dr. Miguel Mac D. Aposin, CESO V.

Marking the first time in the school's history, both the Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director of DepEd Region VI attended its opening ceremony for a new academic year. Among more than 2,000 public schools in Western Visayas, LNHS was given the opportunity to host the region's two highest-ranking education officials.

Beyond its historical significance, the occasion enabled the regional education officials to observe firsthand the challenges faced by Leon National High School. Among the concerns raised were the shortage of classrooms and the need for additional school buildings and learning facilities to enhance the delivery of quality education.

“This is a new school year, a new and endless opportunity,” Director Eco said. He emphasized that regardless of one's WWW (Walang-Walang-Wala) background, success is attainable through determination, perseverance, and a clear vision for the future.

Meanwhile, Assistant Regional Director Aposin urged learners to identify their goals, believe in their capabilities, and trust in God as they pursue their educational journey.

Carrying the theme, “Sa Alapaap ng mga Pangarap: Tara sa Byaheng Leon High,” the opening ceremony reflected the school's commitment to guiding learners toward success and lifelong learning.

School Principal II Nelson C. Candolesas welcomed students, teachers, parents, and guests and formally opened the new academic year. He also expressed gratitude for the presence of the regional officials and encouraged the school community to work together in achieving excellence.

Sangguniang Bayan Member Jethro M. Caigoy likewise delivered an inspirational message, encouraging learners to persevere and remain united in pursuing their goals.

“You will never know if you never try,” he said. “When there is unity, there will always be victory.”

The Philippine National Anthem opened the program, followed by a prayer, the Panatang Makabayan, the Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas, the Panunumpa ng Lingkod Bayan, the Leon Hymn, and the school hymn, led by officers of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG).

Concluding the event were the presentation of teachers and staff, the official declaration of the opening of classes, and a unity dance, symbolizing the collective commitment of the Leon NHS community to a productive and successful School Year 2026–2027.

Today marks another significant milestone in our collective journey toward delivering improved basic education across the region. As we open our doors to a new academic year, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and relevance of basic education services for every learner under our care.

In DepEd Region VI, we place utmost priority on the assurance of quality basic education. This means strengthening our teaching and learning processes, ensuring the adequacy of instructional resources, and continuously building the capabilities of our educators. We recognize that quality education is not merely about access, but also about meaningful learning experiences that equip our learners with the competencies they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
