The reckless operation of motor vehicles has contributed to tragic outcomes in our region. Long Beach Police Department (CA) officers have repeatedly disrupted large scale, reckless illegal events and will continue to do so by enforcing all applicable laws - just as they did last night. If you chose to participate in this illegal activity, be aware that we will cite/arrest those involved and we will tow involved vehicles. Whether it’s one car or multiple e-bikes - our efforts will not stop and I commend our police officers for the focus they’ve placed on addressing this dangerous trend. Well done.

Friday night , the Long Beach Police Department (CA) learned of a large group of people on illegal “e-bikes/pocket bikes”. Officers from multiple divisions worked together to impact the significant public safety risk this activity can pose. Traffic safety remains a priority for LBPD, and we are committed to supporting this collaborative work in our city. Anyone who chooses to participate in reckless illegal driving on our streets should be aware that we will continue to cite, arrest, and seize vehicles of those involved. I want to commend our police officers for once again using available resources to keep us all safe. Well done!

Today, we remember Jose and Samantha Palacios. A loving father and his 3-year-old daughter who tragically lost their lives on March 1, 2022, when Suspect Octavio Islas left a local bar and drove his car into their Long Beach City home. Suspect Islas fled the scene, while Jose and Samantha lay in their home suffering from fatal injuries.

Suspect Islas, now 28 years old, remains at large but the pain he has caused the Palacios family is ever present. If you know him, please urge him to do the right thing and turn himself in. The Long Beach Police Department (CA) will not stop pursuing him, and we will continue requesting assitance from local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in locating and arresting Suspect Islas. A $20,000 reward remains available for information leading to his apprehension and conviction.

Though time has passed, the Palacios family remains in our hearts and I ask you to please share this story with your friends and family to help spread awareness; together we can bring a small piece of closure to the Palacios family and ensure this suspect is held responsible for his reckless and cowardly actions. Please also take a moment to click on the link below and watch this message from Esnelia Palacios, mother of Samantha and wife of Jose.
