The Trustees of Green Cemetery would like to thank all of the Veterans that have passed on and for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice or our freedoms! We especially want to recognize the 5 heros resting in Green Cemetery who gave their lives for this great country.

John Kaufman- Civil War- 7th New Jersey Volunteers Co. H. Was shot in shoulder during battle of Williamsburg (VA), May 5th 1862, and died 159 years ago today on May 30th 1862. He rests in Section A Plot 94.

Jesse Osborne- Civil War- 12th New Jersey Volunteers Co. A. Was shot in the head and died Feb. 6th 1864 at Morton's Ford (VA). He rests in Section A - Plot 17

William Fletcher- Civil War- 12th New Jersey Volunteers Co. A Died of fever on June 7th 1865 in the U.S. Hospital in Troy New York. He rests in the West Park Section A - Row F - Grave 29

William Bonsal- World War I- 110th Infantry, Amerucan Expiditionary Force Gloucester county's first Casulaty of WW1- Was killed by sniper fire Sept. 27th 1918 in D'Argonne, France. He rests in Section C - Plot 67.

William U Beck- World War II- Was killed in Germany Dec. 20th 1944. After the war his body was removed from the Henri Chappelle Cemetery in Belgium and retuned home Nov. 12th 1947. He rests in Section D - Plot 110.

The Trustees of Green Cemetery welcome you to our page. We will be posting about the clean up and restoration of the cemetery, plot availability and care. We also will be posting about the residents of the cemetery. The Cemetery contains 160 years of Woodbury and the surrounding areas history. The people here come from all walks of life. Farmers, bakers, butchers, merchants, Mayors, Woodbury's first police officers, also our heros from the Civil War to World War II including Gloucester Countys first casualty from World War I. Thousands of stories to be told. Stay tuned!!

We will be posting about the restoration going on in the Cemetery as we progress. Many years of neglect have taken their toll on the grounds and we are working hard to return it to its former beauty.

Dr. Lewis M Green was born in Clarksboro NJ on March 28th 1817 to Joseph and Mary Green. Lewis would marry Mary Ann Turner Sepetember 19 1839. They would have 2 children Georgeanna and George Gill. Georgeanna would pass away February 22 1844 and Mary would follow soon after on August 29 1844. They are both interred in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksboro. Lewis would remarry to Ellen Banks. They would have 2 children Joseph and Mary. Lewis would pass away at his home in Woodbury on January 2 1894, Ellen would follow that August. Lewis, Ellen, Joseph and Mary are all buried here in Green Cemetery. They are located in a semi circle in front of Dr. Green Memorial.
