The Wells Community Foundation is an independent, volunteer-driven, society established in 2017 with a generous donation from Barkerville Gold Mines, in the amount of a $50,000 donation, and the NDIT Community Foundation Matching Grant applied for through the District of Wells, for a total initial investment of $100,000. The Foundation’s assets are invested for the long term, so only a portion of

the fund is distributed every year to ensure the endowment’s continuous growth for giving year after year. The Wells Community Foundation is partnered with the Prince George Community Foundation, for the purpose of: building a permanent endowment; assessing and responding to emerging and changing community needs; providing a place for donors with varied interests and levels of giving to donate; and serving as a resource catalyst for charitable activities within the community. This will be done through the strategic giving of investment income from the endowment fund to promote a healthy, vibrant, livable community, and enhance overall civic engagement. The Wells Community Foundation believes: the endowment fund is a crucial resource to benefit the Wells and Area citizens, and we commit to manage these funds in a responsible manner; in working to strengthen community capacity and volunteerism, and to find solutions to mutual challenges within our community; and in encouraging and nurturing pride in our community. The community foundation works to have a deep understanding of community issues and charitable organizations in every sector — the arts, environment, education, health, recreation, and more – so their funds can be used to support the greatest needs and priorities in the community.
