The ignition of today’s 418-hectare planned burn near Corryong, in the Thowgla Valley has commenced.

We currently have 18 firefighters, emergency management vehicles and aircraft operating in the area while the burn is completed.

If weather conditions remain suitable, ignition of this fuel reduction burn will continue tomorrow (Thursday) and crews will patrol the site until the area is safe.

Reducing forest fuels means fires are less intense and slower to spread, making it more likely that firefighters can contain bushfires before they impact people, property and the environment.

We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern for some people, but we are taking every opportunity to burn while conditions allow and it is safe to do so.

Happy new year everyone,

Continuing on from the quick fill pumps, we have been advocating for better water access points along the Thowgla creek and Upper Murray area.

These water points will strengthen the resilience in the community with a faster and safer response time in a emergence for all service workers and the wider community.

The Thowgla Valley Fire Brigade would like to thank Towong Shire for the $5,000.00 community grant.
This was vital allowing us to purchase a storage container to house the Thowgla Valley Fire Brigade community fire equipment.
Thanks also goes to WA Pickles for the supply and delivery.

Trevor Ebbels CFA Commander will be in at Corryong CFA for anyone willing to become a volunteer/member and can assist in registration on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd.

Today the Thowgla community gathered together in a information/training day provided by the Thowgla CRC at the Thowgla hall.
Recovery funding has been filtering in and now have purchase 14 firefighting slip on units and 50 hand held UHF radios to improve communication and fighting capiblities in the area.

This has been a major boost in resilience for the community. Also we had the pleasure of the CFA and DELWP, providing information for the upcoming season and explaining how to be prepared and what to look for.

Matt is bringing along a great range of inflatables, and the best bit is they're all FREE!!

Many thanks to Matt for donating some of his gear and also to the local bushfire Community Recovery Committee's who have chipped in money to help make the Cracker Family Night an affordable night for our community, with free rides and entertainment!!
