Brig. Gen. Leland D. Blanchard II, Commanding General (Interim) of the D.C. National Guard, joined Joint Task Force–District of Columbia and interagency partners at the UFC Freedom 250 news conference ahead of Sunday night’s highly anticipated event.

As preparations continue throughout the weekend—including a ceremonial weigh-in—federal, state, and local partners remain synchronized to help ensure a safe and successful experience for visitors expected to gather on the White House South Lawn, Ellipse, and National Mall. Events of this scale showcase the power of teamwork, planning, and readiness. Together, our interagency partners stand prepared to support public safety while helping deliver a memorable Freedom 250 celebration for residents and visitors alike.

Honoring generations of service!🇺🇸

Brig. Gen. Leland D. Blanchard II, Commanding General (Interim) of the D.C. National Guard, joined veterans at the Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight Mission #23 10th Anniversary Banquet and Awards, serving as the evening’s keynote speaker.

Since 2016, Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight has brought veterans to Washington, D.C., ensuring they have the opportunity to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. Veterans participating in Mission #23 represented service eras spanning World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The evening's Honor Flight Mail Call served as a powerful reminder that while their service may have ended, our gratitude never will. Through letters, photos, and messages of appreciation, a grateful nation paused to say thank you to those whose courage and sacrifice helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today.

Quick reactions; selfless service!

On June 7, 2026, during their daily physical fitness training while on mission in Washington, D.C., Spc. Minniti, Spc Jenkins and Pfc. Rucker led by Sgt. Jurkovitz helped a civilian having a medical emergency.

Using their training and quick decision-making, the Soldiers immediately rendered first aid while 1LT Smith contacted 911. The team remained on scene, assisting until emergency responders arrived and ensuring the individual was stable and receiving proper care before continuing their mission.

Their actions reflect the Army Values and the commitment to serving others whenever and wherever needed.

Soldiers with the Louisiana National Guard, assigned to Joint Task Force–District of Columbia in support of the DC Safe and Beautiful Mission, conduct presence patrols and support entry control point operations at the FIFA World Cup Fan Zone in Washington. As fans from around the globe gathered to celebrate the world's most popular sport, Guardsmen helped create a safe and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

The District remains part of the global celebration through watch parties, fan festivals, and community events that bring people together through a shared love of the game. Through partnership and service, National Guard Soldiers continue supporting the safety and success of major events across the District as the nation approaches Freedom 250.

Soldiers assigned to the District of Columbia National Guard’s 547th Transportation Company conducted Annual Training at Fort Pickett, Virginia, strengthening the skills and capabilities required to support mission success at home and abroad.

Training events included tactical convoy operations, individual and squad automatic weapon qualification, and motor transport operations designed to enhance operational readiness, force protection, and mission effectiveness.

Through realistic, hands-on training, these Soldiers continue to sharpen critical warfighting skills, maintain transportation readiness, and ensure they remain prepared to support the Nation whenever called upon.
