What Is Your Voice is in dire need of unscented laundry detergent ! Our food/supplies pantry Matthew’s Place provides essential items to survivors of domestic abuse and violence. Having access to clean clothes is HUGE for them, especially if they have been unhoused previously. We prefer smaller size, unscented laundry detergents for the ease of our survivors and their children. Thank you for your support, without our community, our mission would not be possible!

Seeing as it was often requested, WIYV now has an Amazon wishlist ! Items purchased from the wishlist in the comments will be sent straight to our campus and distributed to those who need it most in Sussex County, DE. We will be adding and removing items as needs are fulfilled/if new needs arise. 💜 Feel free to reach out to our 24/7 helpline with questions at 302-467-3310 or our email at [email protected].

🫂🦋 We hope you and yours have a great weekend.

🧡

Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day and the first day of Everytown for Gun Safety's Weekend. 🧡

Every day in the United States, nearly 130 people are shot and killed. Many of them are domestic violence victims whose abusers have chosen to use guns to hurt them.

For many abusers, killing a partner is the ultimate act of power and control, and access to guns makes this possible.

Nobody ever deserves to live in fear of a partner with a gun. NNEDV is committed to advancing common-sense legislation to keep guns away from abusers and to keep victims safe.

Yesterday, Jacqueline Sterbach (WIYV President) and Jill Pensiero (LPCMH) had the honor to attend the WEAR ORANGE VIGIL - an event created to honor the many lives lost to gun violence, but especially the young Hadiya Pendleton. She was only a young girl when she was murdered, her chance at adulthood stolen from her. Her friends decided to begin wearing orange, the color hunters wear to protect themselves. This vigil was emotionally impactful in ways it’s hard to describe in words. The energy in the room held unimaginable grief, but also a deep hope for the future. A hope to create a safer place for not only ourselves , but our future generations. So please - this week/weekend consider wearing orange to honor Hadiya as well as the thousands of others who have lost their lives to gun violence.

These stats should not be surprising. It is the harsh reality survivors face.

These stats should not be surprising. It is the harsh reality survivors face.

No one should have to live in fear of a partner with access to a gun.

Today, we to raise awareness about the deadly intersection of intimate partner violence and gun violence and to stand with victims and survivors everywhere.

We know survivor safety must remain at the center of these conversations. When an abusive partner has access to a firearm, the risk of homicide increases by 500%, making firearm accountability a critical component of domestic violence prevention and survivor safety.

We remember 🫂

D-Day was a pivotal point in World War II and world history. Despite occurring 80 years ago, it is still the largest seaborne invasion in history and is still being analyzed by historians today.
