Congratulations to our seven newest graduates of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training Program! 🎓👏🏼

This 40-hour course, led by the McNabb Center, equips emergency responders with advanced de-escalation techniques and the skills needed to recognize and respond to individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, and behavioral health crises.

The knowledge gained through CIT training helps our deputies build stronger relationships within the community while providing safe, compassionate, and effective responses during difficult situations.

Thank you to the McNabb Center for their continued partnership and to our graduates for their commitment to professional development and to serving the citizens of Knox County with excellence.

UPDATE-

June 6, 2026

In reference to the hit-and-run fatality on June 4, 2026, on Dutchtown at Bob Kirby. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit (Tango) located the vehicle and suspect this morning. The suspect was charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, tampering with evidence, and driving without a license and was transported to the Roger Detention Facility.

Our sincere appreciation to the public and to our media partners for their assistance. Please remember the family of the deceased victim during this difficult time.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit (TANGO) is seeking information regarding a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. last night at the intersection of Bob Kirby Road and Dutchtown Road.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist in the investigation to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit (TANGO) at 865-215-2243.

Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be helpful to investigators.

Recognizing and reporting domestic violence is critical to saving lives. Abuse does not always begin with physical harm; it can include emotional, verbal, financial, sexual, or psychological control. Too often, warning signs are overlooked or minimized, allowing violence to escalate in silence. Reporting concerns and seeking help early can interrupt the cycle of abuse, connect individuals to safety planning and resources, and provide support before situations become life-threatening. Speaking up for yourself or for someone you care about can make a powerful difference.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. You do not have to go through this alone. Support, advocacy, and confidential resources are available at the Randall E. Nichols Family Justice Center, located at 400 Harriet Tubman Street, Knoxville, Tennessee 37915.
The Randall E. Nichols Family Justice Center brings together several agencies ready to help, including the Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff's Office, Bridge to Safety, YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley, McNabb Center, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, the Department of Children's Services, and the Knox County District Attorney's Office. Together, these partners provide law enforcement support, emergency shelter, counseling, legal assistance, advocacy, and services for children and families, working collaboratively to help individuals find safety, stability, and hope.
