According to new research led by ARU, quite a lot.

Researchers found that contact with natural environments is linked to healthier eating habits through factors including body appreciation and self-compassion. The study is the first to provide evidence that exposure to nature may influence people's relationship with food.

Last week, the ARU School of Medicine Research Conference 2026 brought together researchers, students, clinicians, educators and partners from across our research community for a fantastic day of sharing, learning and collaboration under the theme Research for Inclusive Healthcare.

We were proud to host the annual ARU Lord Ribeiro Lecture, delivered by Professor Sir Michael Marmot, who presented a thought-provoking session on Social Justice and Health Equity. We also welcomed Professor Margaret Greenfields as our keynote speaker, alongside a diverse programme of oral presentations, poster displays and workshops exploring health inequalities, inclusive care, digital health and AI, workforce development and patient-centred research.

A huge thank you to all our presenters, delegates, exhibitors, judges and student volunteers whose enthusiasm, expertise and support made the event such a success. The outstanding quality of the research showcased throughout the day demonstrated the strength, diversity and collaborative spirit of the School of Medicine research community and its commitment to improving health outcomes through innovative and inclusive research.
