From Havana to the Army Reserve: A legacy of service and ambition!

As a child in Cuba, Spc. Andy Soto used to put on his older brother’s U.S. Army uniform, pretending to salute. Today, he’s wearing his own.

After coming to the U.S from Cuba at age seven for a more prosperous life, Soto knew he wanted to give back to the nation he now calls home. When it came time to enlist, he didn't have to look far for guidance, his brother was a recruiter at the Royal Palm Recruiting Station in West Palm Beach, FL and helped him map out his future.

His brother steered him toward becoming an Automated Logistical Specialist (92A), a role packed with high-demand civilian skills in warehouse operations and supply chain logistics. To balance his goals, Soto chose the Army Reserve.

Now, he's a full-time student at Florida International University pursuing his second bachelor's degree and gaining massive responsibility in his unit.

“I’m forever grateful to the United States and the Army for everything it’s given me,” says Soto.

Music, community, and a bit of heavy lifting! 🎶🏋️‍♂️

This past weekend, the U.S. Army New York City Recruiting Battalion teamed up with the U.S. Army Reserve's 78th Army Band, "Liberty Vibes," at the 116th Street Festival in New York, New York.

Local recruiters cheered on attendees tackling the deadlift challenge, while Army Reserve Soldiers had the crowd dancing in the streets. The band's high-energy performance even caught the attention of the News, broadcasting the event to more than 7.5 million households across the tri-state area!

Baseballs, birthdays, and the next generation of leadership. ⚾️🇺🇸

This past weekend at Victory Field, the Indianapolis community came together to celebrate a double milestone: the 251st birthdays of both the U.S. Army and the Army Finance Corps.

Under the stadium lights, 16 local Future Soldiers raised their right hands and took the Oath of Enlistment, administered by Brig. Gen. Sara Dudley, USARD Commanding General.

“At its core, tonight honors and recognizes the young men and women who are joining the Army in front of a crowd in their hometown,” said Dudley, a native Hoosier who grew up less than eight miles from the stadium. “This is something that brings the city together to celebrate them in a special way that puts some smiles on their faces and gets them pumped before they go to basic training."

For 48 hours, these Soldiers and leaders kept showing up.

Starting Saturday at 8 a.m., members of the United States Army Recruiting Division took on the 4x4x48 challenge, completing four miles every four hours by run, walk, or ruck.

They wrapped up the final four miles this morning at 4 a.m., finishing with a total of 48 miles and a powerful reminder of what discipline, teamwork, and resilience look like in action.

Four miles at a time. Forty-eight miles total. A steady display of discipline, grit, and teamwork from start to finish.

Before most people started their Monday, these Soldiers and leaders had already completed 48 miles.

Starting Saturday at 8 a.m., members of the United States Army Recruiting Division camped out in front of HQ and stepped off every four hours for the 4x4x48 challenge.

Through the day, night, and heat, they kept moving, finishing the final four-mile evolution Monday morning at 4 a.m.

Wrapping up an incredible week in Atlanta!

As SkillsUSA 2026 comes to a close, the momentum for future career readiness is just getting started.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 James Bettencourt, special mission division, U.S. Army Recruiting Division attended the SkillsUSA Workforce Summit, engaging in critical conversations with industry leaders, educators, and policy advocates about aligning workforce development with modern trade skills.

While attending the summit, CW5 Bettencourt also participated in the SkillsUSA Championship Tour at the Georgia World Congress Center, where he witnessed firsthand some of the nation's top technical talent competing at the highest levels.

The dedication, precision, and drive shown by these students prove that the future workforce is ready for any challenge, and the Army is proud to support their journey from the classroom to the career field.
