House Rules

We use social media as an additional means to engage with our communities. We want to keep you, our followers, informed of what’s happening in your area and provide you with crime prevention advice. We also know that you can be invaluable in assisting us with appeals for information. We want our social media accounts to be safe spaces for all who use them, so we ask that all followers

adhere to our House Rules. We reserve the right to hide or delete comments or block users who break these House Rules.

1. Reporting

This is really important. Public comments on our posts are not moderated 24/7, and are not monitored by our control room; if you want to report a crime or provide information in response to an appeal via social media, this MUST be done via our website or by calling 101. In an emergency, always dial 999. If you come across something you think breaks a social media platform’s terms and conditions, you should report it to that platform. If you think a crime is being committed online, you should report it to us on our website or via 101. Contact 999 only in an emergency. Please don’t post links to unlawful material in a public comment.

2. Posting on our accounts

Remember everything you say on our social media accounts is public. You are legally responsible for what you say and post on our pages. We do have the ability to disable comments but we prefer to do this as a last resort or when we judge there is a need to do so, for example in order to protect the integrity of investigations. Our social media was always intended to allow a two-way dialogue between us and our followers and we want to restrict this as little as possible. With that in mind do not post content which is:

• Abusive (including expletives)
• Defamatory
• Hateful
• Racially offensive
• Sexually offensive
• Obscene
• Threatening
• Inflammatory
• Unlawful (for example comments which could prejudice a trial or content which you don’t own the copyright to)
• Spam or unrelated to the post
• Includes sensitive information, such as your own, or someone else’s personal details
• Includes links to any material containing any of the above

Comments are moderated, although this is not on a 24/7 basis; in addition, due to the volume of public comments received, we don’t always see them straight away. However, we do reserve the right to delete or hide comments, or block any users, that breach these guidelines, without explanation, and to change our guidelines at any time and without notice. For those comments/users which may cross the criminal threshold, we will also seek to prosecute if necessary.

3. Complaints

If you want to make a complaint against South Wales Police or one of its officers/members of staff, you can do so on our website: https://www.south-wales.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/c/af/complaints/

Thirty people have been sentenced for their part in serious disorder which happened in the Ely area of Cardiff on Monday, May 22, 2023.

During the disorder several vehicles were set alight, property was damaged, police officers were injured, and residents were scared in their homes.

An investigation by South Wales Police resulted in 51 people being arrested and the majority charged with the extremely serious offence of riot.

Today’s sentencing concludes the criminal investigation into the disorder.

We are extremely grateful for the support from the community throughout our investigation.

Our thoughts continue to be with the families and friends of Harvey Evans and Kyrees Sullivan who lost their lives in a road traffic collision on that evening in May 2023.

Amongst it's regular attendees is PCSO Michael O'Sullivan of Roath Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Michael has built a close relationship with those involved with the Breakfast Club and is on hand to help with any advice or guidance members of the community need.

This week is Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action, so we're highlighting all the vital work that neighbourhood officers, police community support officers, and volunteers do to protect the public and keep people safe.

Earlier this year our colleague and friend Claire White passed away following a short battle with cancer.

Claire was a loving wife to Adrian, who is a Detective Sergeant with us, and caring mother to son, Harry.

On Monday, August 17, Adrian and Harry will set off from Gloucester and walk 250km in six days to raise awareness of the incredible work and care Marie Curie provides to its patients and their families.

The father and son duo will walk an average of 40km per day and enroute will aim to reach Pen y Fan on Thursday, August 20 on what would have been Claire’s 40th birthday.

After the climb, Adrian and Harry will then walk through Merthyr and down the Taff Trail to Cardiff and onto the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth, where Claire was a resident before her passing. From there they will walk the journey home to St Brides Major.

The challenge will provide Adrian and Harry the perfect opportunity to reflect and celebrate Claire’s amazing life. Her memory and legacy will live on in them both.

| Watch the quick work of PCSO Dan Kinsey of Cardiff Central's neighbourhood policing team, who spotted and chased down a prolific shoplifter, helping the city centre become a no-go zone for criminals.

Following his arrest, the shoplifter was charged for six offences and denied bail.

On Thursday, April 30, he appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court, where he was convicted following a guilty plea, and received a sentence of 26 weeks in prison.

Have you received a call-up to be the designated driver for any of this week’s games? 🚗⚽🏆

👉 If you have, then remember you’re entitled to receive free or discounted draught soft drinks at selected venues as part of our ‘DES’ scheme which runs until Sunday, July 19.

To get involved, all you have to do is make yourself known to bar staff at one of the selected premises and in return they will give you a ‘DES’ wristband, enabling you to claim free or discounted draught soft drinks. 🥤

We know it can sometimes be a burden being the designated driver, but we hope the ‘DES’ scheme will encourage more people to be aware of the very serious consequences of drink driving and the importance of being safe on the roads.
