Please Buy Trip Insurance Before Travelling
The cost to transport a patient from Europe to the United States by air ambulance may be over $100,000, from Asia as much as $200,000. Flying a patient from one coast in the U.S. can exceed $30,000. The cost of trip insurance is well worth it at $300-400. U.S. Air does not sell trip insurance but we do accept it if you have purchased it.
If you take a cruise, buy trip insurance. Cruise lines will drop you at the nearest port, many of which do not have adequate medical facilities. If you are older, even in good health, please buy the insurance. The stress of travel can exceed your body’s ability to absorb it. And if you are younger, you too need travel insurance, for we know you are going to try new adventures on the road.
Check with your medical insurance company before travelling abroad. They may offer a rider. Your credit card company might offer trip insurance as well. Medicare and Medicare supplementals unfortunately do not cover air ambulance from abroad. When purchasing a policy, buy the upgraded version that flies the patient back to the U.S..
Finally, if you need to be flown to a hospital, realize even if your insurance company states that no air ambulance is available or that they deem you not suitable for air ambulance, that U.S. Air Ambulance can transport you home within hours of your injury or illness. If you need our help, please call U.S. Air Ambulance at 800-633-5384 or 941-926-2490 or email us at airambulance.com. We can offer a free second opinion and advice on how to proceed.
