🚨Most dog attacks occur when dogs are off-leash and not under control!

Even the friendliest dogs can become startled or react unexpectedly. Keeping your dog leashed is one of the simplest ways to help protect people, and pets in our community.

Under the Township of Essa's Canine Control By-law, dog owners are required to ensure their dogs do not run at large. All dogs in Essa must also be licensed and wear a valid dog tag.

Keep your dog on a leash when visiting parks, trails, and public spaces.
Maintain control of your dog at all times.
Purchase your annual dog licence and ensure your dog tag is affixed to your dog.

Looking for a place for your dog to run and play? Visit Essa's designated off-leash dog parks. Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the off-leash area, and owners must remain with and supervise their dogs at all times.

Responsible pet ownership helps keep our parks safe and enjoyable for everyone.

The Township of Essa has lowered its flags to half-mast in honour of Constable Tarun Bali of the Ontario Provincial Police. Constable Bali, 29, a member of the James Bay Detachment, lost his life in the line of duty on June 9, 2026, while assisting with an investigation in the Hearst area.

On behalf of Council, staff, and the residents of the Township of Essa, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Constable Bali’s family, friends, colleagues, and all members of the Ontario Provincial Police during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with those mourning this tragic loss and with the policing community across Ontario.

🚧 Road Construction Notice 🚧

Please be advised that road construction is scheduled to begin in June and expected to continue through September 2026 on the following roads:

• 8th Line (30th Sideroad to County Rd. 90)
• 30th Sideroad (8th Line to County Rd. 56)
• 19th Sideroad (Gillespie Trail to 6009 19th Sideroad)
• 25th Sideroad/4th Line (Centre Park Rd. to 8148 4th Line)

Work includes pulverization, grading, ditching, asphalt paving, double surface treatment, and related improvements.

Although every effort will be made to limit the amount of disturbance to residents, inconveniences such as impeded traffic flow and access to driveways are to be expected. We request that when driving or walking through and around the construction area, please proceed with caution and obey the construction traffic signs and personnel.
