Senator Leroy Comrie Leroy Comrie is the State Senator for the 14th Senate District in Queens. He previously served as a NYC Council Member. Senator Comrie won re-election in 2016.

Leroy Comrie was elected to represent the 27th Council District in 2001 and was re-elected in 2005 and 2009. He grew up in Southeast Queens, attending P.S. 116, I.S. 8, and Jamaica High. He is a lifelong member of Saint Alban the Martyr Episcopal Church, where he serves as a layperson, vestryman, and chalice administrator. Senator Comrie knows government must be responsive and provide opportunities for positive interaction with citizens. Therefore, he is focused everyday on providing quality education, guidance, and support for youth; ensuring quality healthcare and services for seniors; and creating economic development projects that generate employment opportunities and affordable housing for local residents. Then-Councilman Comrie served as the Deputy Majority Leader and chairman of the Queens Delegation. He also served on key committees, including the Budget Negotiating Team, Land Use, Rules, Privileges and Elections, Finance, Consumer Affairs, Housing and Buildings, and Cultural Affairs/Libraries. In 2014, Leroy Comrie was elected to serve in the New York State Senate from the 14th District. During his first term in the state legislature, Senator Comrie and other Democrats raised the minimum wage, lowered income taxes for middle class families, and implemented paid family leave. As a New York State legislator representing many of the neighborhoods that comprise Southeast Queens, he is committed to working to keep our community safe, improving our schools, and supporting local businesses and families.

Domestic violence affects individuals and families across every community and too often, those experiencing abuse feel they have nowhere to turn.

As we recognize Wear Purple Day during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I want survivors to know that you are not alone, your voice matters and help is available.

We must continue to listen without judgment, support those who come forward and make sure our neighbors know where to find help. Ending domestic violence requires more than raising awareness. It takes compassion, action and a commitment to protecting one another every day.

If you or someone you know needs support, confidential help is available 24/7:

* NYC Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-621-HOPE (4673)
* NYS Domestic & Sexual Violence Hotline: 1-800-942-6906 | Text: 844-997-2121
* National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) | Text START to 88788

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples Day and the many contributions Indigenous communities have made to our state and nation. Their history deserves to be told, their traditions deserve to be preserved and their voices deserve to be heard.

Let us take this day to learn more about the people who first called this land home and the communities who continue to carry that history forward.

A major investment in the health and well-being of Southeast Queens!

The opening of Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s new $150 million Emergency Department marks an important step toward expanding access to quality healthcare for families throughout Southeast Queens and the Rockaways.

With increased capacity, modernized facilities and expanded emergency services, this investment will help ensure that more New Yorkers can receive the timely, lifesaving care they need close to home.

Thank you to Governor Kathy Hochul, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and the entire Jamaica Hospital team for their continued commitment to strengthening healthcare in our communities.
