Hey everyone,

I'm writing to share that as of this year, ROC has decided to formally dissolve its nonprofit status. In part, this decision arose from an emerging lack of capacity and time among ROC’s leaders (most of whom are college students or working full time) and a shared sense that other, more established organizations in Vermont are more effectively meeting community needs. While many of ROC's student-run chapters will continue to operate and former ROC volunteers are continuing to organize in other capacities, putting energy toward continuing to sustain this particular nonprofit, we feel, is not the most effective use of resources and time.

Although ROC will no longer exist as an overarching nonprofit organization, members of ROC chapters are continuing to operate in many Vermont schools on a grassroots level, doing awesome work to fundraise and volunteer for local organizations such as USCRI Vermont and Migrant Justice, while educating ourselves and each other about racial (in)justice.

If you would like to get in touch with current student organizers or with the folks who formerly ran ROC’s nonprofit, you can learn how to do so by going to our new website, linked below. This site will serve as a publicly accessible archive of ROC's past work and a home for publicly accessible resources for anyone continuing to organize through ROC chapters or otherwise.

In closing, we donated the remainder of our money to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund to support victims of the genocide in Gaza. We encourage anyone who is able to do so as well. Free Palestine.

To everyone who has been involved in supporting ROC in the past, thank you. May the seeds planted through our work together continue to grow toward justice.

But if you havecome because your liberation isbound up with mine, then let us worktogether." -Lilla Watson, in response to mission workers ABOUT Rooted Organizing Community ROC is a network of youth working toward social justice in Vermont th...

We envision a world in which there is systemic equity instead of systemic racism, systemic care instead of systemic oppression.

In service of this vision, we are developing interactive workshops for young people across Vermont about systems of oppression, dismantling white supremacy, earth wisdom, and liberation.

We need your support to make this dream a reality! Donate to help us bring justice-based education to Vermont.

**All funds raised from this campaign will go directly towards compensating BIPOC facilitators for ROC Workshops and further develop this and other ROC programs.**

RESOURCES TO LEARN ABOUT POLICE DIVESTMENT:

If you would like to learn more about police divestment and what it means and why we're advocating for it, here are some resources to start with:

1.) ACLU: "Defunding the Police will Actually Make Us Safer":

https://www.aclu.org/…/defunding-the-police-will-actually-…/

2.) Wash Post: "Defund the police? Here’s what that really means":

3.) VPR: "Why Are There So Many African-Americans Incarcerated In Vermont?":

Another great way to get information is to follow Black activists and leaders on social media! Searching the instagram hashtag, and will provide a wealth of information and insight into the movement. Below is a link to a list of Black female activists you should follow on instagram:

Olivia’s speech at our Black Lives Matter! Divest in Police, Invest in Community protest.

“There is magic here, and it is alive and flooding within these powerful Black voices calling for systemic change. We as white folks need to listen, read, interrogate racism as a white problem within ourselves, re-learn how to see the world as a miracle so we can care enough to be revolutionaries, and join the revolution. Not just here, not just now, but every day of our lives.”

It was an honor to have Rajnii Eddins speak today at our event in Colchester, reading this poem that was filmed at the Montpelier protest a few days ago. (Our own video recording quality from today wasn’t as good as this, so we’re sharing this. Thanks Montpelier organizers for sharing it!)
