The Great Saltpetre Cave This historic cave, once used for saltpetre mining, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Great Saltpetre Preserve Management Committee is a committee of The Greater Cincinnati Grotto and dedicated to the maintenance and daily operations of the Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve. The preserve is 300+ acres of land, owned by the Rockcastle Karst Conservancy, and located in east central Kentucky. It contains Great Saltpetre Cave which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve is open to the public during the third weekend of May (the weekend after Mother's Day). Please see https://gsp.caves.org for more Open House details.

To all the guests that came to the Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve this past weekend for our Annual Open House -

THANK YOU on behalf of the Rockcastle Karst Conservancy and the Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve Management Committee.

To all the volunteers that worked so hard the past couple of weeks to ensure our visitors had a great experience…. THANK YOU! We couldn’t open our cave to our neighbors if it wasn’t for your help and dedication.
