Renovations at the Illinois State Capitol are set to wrap up later this year. The massive project included a rehab of the Illinois Senate chamber, construction of a new underground parking garage and conference room, and the creation of a new main entrance with enhanced security features.

Illinois Capitol renovations are running behind schedule but remain within the project's $350 million budget.

Deputy Leader Ryan Spain argues against Democrats' raid on downstate road and bridge funds as the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) takes over in Chicagoland.

NITA was created when Democrats passed the Chicago mass transit bailout last year. Unfortunately, the new organization comes at a cost to downstate, taking crucial funds from road and bridge projects to bail out Chicago's mismanaged transit system.

“Financial abuse can keep victims trapped long after an abusive relationship ends,” Rep. La Ha said. ” This law gives survivors a meaningful opportunity to defend themselves and continue rebuilding their lives.”

State Rep. Murri Briel has stepped down from Speaker Chris Welch’s Workplace Culture and Accountability Working Group amid her ongoing controversy.

What was supposed to address workplace culture in the House has instead become a political stunt resulting in only bad press. Rather than demanding accountability, Speaker Welch seems more focused on managing the fallout from scandal after scandal.

State Representative Patrick Sheehan is calling for reforms to Illinois’ electronic monitoring and pretrial release system after a man accused of carrying eight Molotov cocktails in Mokena was released on an ankle monitor.

Sheehan is co-sponsoring several bills aimed at strengthening the system:

✅ HB 1482 would expand the offenses eligible for pretrial detention.

✅ HB 4125 removes 2-days of free movement for those on electronic monitoring.

✅ HB 4186 would require immediate notification to law enforcement and prosecutors when someone violates conditions of their electronic monitoring.

✅ HB 5757 would require pretrial release to be revoked when a person commits a felony while on electronic monitoring.

Last year, Democrats passed a mass transit bailout that created the Northern Illinois Transit Authority and took crucial funding from downstate road and bridge projects to try to save Chicago's mismanaged system. Why should the rest of the state pay for the city's failures?
