Impact Disaster Response - VBDR

Impact Disaster Response - VBDR Mobilizing volunteers to meet human needs after disaster. Supported by the BGAV.

Virginia Baptist Disaster Response seeks to provide high quality services to meet human needs following disasters. We work in partnership with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, FEMA, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), Baptist conventions, agencies and other national and international partners to bring help and hope to those in need. We offer training and certificatio

n in order for volunteers to be prepared to respond, and we encourage participation of BGAV volunteers and others willing to lend assistance to those in times of great need. Virginia Baptist Disaster Response is supported by gifts to the Baptist General Association of Virginia’s Cooperative Missions budget, the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions, and individual donations specifically designated for "Disaster Response." Donations to a specific disaster are used to provide direct services during that response.

Impact Disaster Response will host hands-on feeding training as part of an overall feeding operation this summer at Impact Mission Camps. This is a great opportunity to learn disaster feeding or get a refresher on actual DR Equipment in preparation for hurricane season and support students sharing Christ’s love by repairing homes of people in need. Click “see details” below to register for our three weeks of camp – June 140-20 in Mecklenburg, June 21-27 in Roanoke, and July 5-11 in Northampton County on the Eastern Shore.

Impact Disaster Response is monitoring the progress of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and as it tracks northeast. We have been in touch with partners who are active in the area, and they are currently asking all states not already called on to respond to support through prayer and donations. We have also heard directly from partners in the affected countries and have committed to supporting them through the coming response.

Because of the anticipated widespread destruction from the storm, there will be some time before even initial assessment teams can get into the area, and travel to the affected countries will likely be very limited, if possible at all.

Please pray for those in the path of this powerful, slow-moving storm and those who are preparing to respond. If you would like to support the response there, you can do so at the link below.

If our status changes in this response, we will share that via email and on social media with our volunteers.
