Great to be with Joe Courtney and Peggy Maloney Lyons along with Director of Emergency Ops Sam DeBurra, Chief Kyttle, Assistant Chief Carroll and so many from Madison Hose Company 1, as well as Madison Police Department and so many regional fire chiefs and departments and community members to celebrate the official opening of Madison’s new Emergency Operations Center. This state-of-the-art facility will be the Town’s many hub during emergencies. It will facilitate coordination and preparedness among first responders, state agencies and town officials to keep the community safer when it matters most. I was at the ground breaking and it was thrilling to be a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony - congrats to all involved from the building committee, to the fire personnel, to the town boards and commissions - well done!

Every day that I walk into the Senate circle in Hartford, I carry stories with me. I think about the families who are trying to make ends meet, the small business owners who are working hard to keep their doors open, the parents who want a better future for their children and the seniors who simply want to be able to stay in the communities they call home. They aren’t just issues to me. They are people. They are our neighbors. They are our community. And that is why I do this.

I don’t run for office because I need or want a title. I run because I believe public service is about showing up, listening and fighting for the people who put their trust in you.

ENDORSEMENT ALERT! I’m so incredibly proud that I’ve been endorsed by the Independent Party of Connecticut. This one means a lot to me. I’ve always believed that getting things done for constituents isn’t about which line I’m on. It’s about showing up for people, listening and working together to solve real problems. That’s how I’ve always approached my job as state senator and how I intend to keep going. It is why I’ll appear on three lines on your ballot. I’m focused on results, not partisanship, because I know that if we can come together, we can make our district, our state (and really, this world), a much better place. Thank you to the Independent Party for their confidence in me. Let’s keep working together to get things done!

Pride festivals, like the one in Madison this past weekend, are a chance to say to one another, to community and to people at large, here we are - take us no matter what, no matter who and no matter how we love. It’s a chance to say that we don’t accept a life where we can’t all be accepted. A chance to say we won’t go back, only forward. A chance to say that everyone belongs.

In this time when people are being targeted by who and how they love, or just for loving at all, it’s nice to be together as a community - showing the love and coming together as one love. In the wonderful words of the late Bob Marley, “One love, one heart, let’s join together and I will feel alright.” 🏳️‍🌈

It has been a busy couple of weeks out and about across the district!

🥕 Helping at CT Foodshare’s Mobile Food Pantry in Branford. I was out there supporting our neighbors in need while celebrating the local farmers who help put fresh food on our tables and contribute to these organizations. I was proud to collaborate with my colleagues to help secure additional funding for CT Foodshare this past session.

📜 Celebrating Constitution Day with the League of Women Voters and students from across our shoreline communities at Blackstone Memorial Library. It is a wonderful thing to hear our Constitution and its amendments read aloud centuries after its signing (and a very special year celebrating our 250th birthday).

🏆 Recognizing East Haven’s Mayor’s Merit Award recipients - congrats to Goody’s Hardware, Joe Santino, Jayla Santiago, Officer Nicole Burrell and Vincent Borzillo! And enjoying the Fall Festival with Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and East Haven Councilwoman Karen Martin, along with friends we saw enjoying their time at the fair.

🧬 Connecting with Connecticut’s growing bioscience community at BioCT’s Annual Mixer at NEBCO in Branford with Rep. Robin Comey. Thank you to Jodie Gillon and the BioCT Board and community companies for participating in this important event about connection and collaboration.

🏛️ Bringing legislators and municipal leaders together at SCRCOG’s legislative breakfast to talk about the issues facing our region and what lies ahead in the upcoming session.

🏭 And wrapping up with CBIA for a tour of Autac, Inc. with Rep. Comey. This family-owned, woman-run company is making things happen. Thanks to CEO Marie-Louise Burkle for giving us a firsthand look at the custom-engineering and manufacturing happening right here in our communities.
