A reminder.

A nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place today, October 4th, 2023, at 1:18pm. If your mobile phone is powered on and receiving service from a participating wireless provider, you should receive an emergency alert message, sound and vibration. Wireless providers will transmit the national test for 30 minutes, but your phone should only receive it once. TV, radios, and other wireless devices will also receive a similar alert.

The message will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

The national test will help ensure that Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) continue to be effective ways to warn the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. It is a required test conducted every three years and you cannot opt out of the alert.

🚨This test will follow the monthly tornado siren test also scheduled for Washington County today at 1:00pm.

If you have questions about the WEA/EPS test, please visit FEMA's FAQ page at https://shorturl.at/tzMS5

The Great Plains are not nearly as photogenic as the Rockies. So when I saw this great golden dome rising up in Iowa (Des Moines) I had to pull off and take a few shots.
Have now arrived at Rupu's place in Chicagoland.

Friends of Pool 2 is still taking pre-registrations for this fun, free, outdoor activity scheduled for June 1st. If you know of a Newport kid who might want to learn more about the river or river fishing, this is the program for them. Maybe their family is not on Facebook, but they do have access to email?Tell them to contact Linda at [email protected] for all the details.

P.S. - this lovely Fish ID graphic handout is a part of the info packet that each kid will receive. Along with a FREE high quality fishing rod and reel and a starter size tackle box pre-filled with tackle. It's such a good deal! Get your registration in asap, because we expect this clinic to fill up.

Some of you might remember the Kids' Fishing event we held last September. We called it "Kids Reach the River", and it served our 30 registered participants between the ages of 4 and 15 years old. As a build-up to the upcoming second event (happening in the next month), we'll be posting a series of informational handouts that were custom created for the kids' packets. The handouts are all about fish and other stuff you might need to become a river angler. We hope you enjoy these images.

Funding for this project is provided in part by a No Child Left Inside grant administered by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
