May the 4th be with you! If youโ€™re a Star Wars fan, you may already know that our region is also the Forest Moon of Endor, home of the Ewoks! Over 40 years ago, the redwood coast served as the film site for the iconic battleground between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Today, fans from around the world continue to visit this stunning cinematic landscape to honor the legendary film franchise and explore the North Coast. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒŠ

Hosted by the Humboldt-Del Notre Film Commission, the Forest Moon Festival is an annual celebration held in many towns across Humboldt and Del-Norte counties honoring the region's role as this incredible filming location. The festival features Star Wars-themed events for fans of all ages featuring costumed characters, movie screenings, film site tours and immersive activities amongst the coastal redwoods.

This year, the Forest Moon Festival will take place Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31. For more information about the festival and to check out the schedule of events, visit ForestMoonFestival.org.

Looking for a winter or spring getaway? The Inn of the Lost Coast in Shelter Cove is the perfect home base for exploring Humboldt Countyโ€™s rugged coastline. Guests enjoy ocean views from every room and suite, along with amenities that make it easy to relax and unwind, including an outdoor hot tub, sun deck, fire pit and an oceanfront restaurant and bar. The inn also offers access to deep-sea charter fishing, a nine-hole golf course and other opportunities for outdoor recreation.

The inn is just a short walk to Black Sands Beach, which is the southern trailhead of the world renowned Lost Coast Trail, making it an ideal place to rest and recharge before or after a day of exploring this unforgettable stretch of untouched coastline.

Shelter Cove is a remote, coastal gem that offers front-row views of some of natureโ€™s most impressive sights, from spectacular coastal scenery to abundant wildlife. Itโ€™s an especially wonderful destination for whale watching, with gray whales migrating each spring, typically peaking in April and May. Humpback whales and orcas are also occasionally spotted. Plus, the scenic drive to Shelter Cove is approximately 45 minutes from Humboldt Redwoods State Park and the Avenue of the Giants.

With the holidays approaching, many of us are looking for a little peace and calm in the midst of the seasonal rush. One simple way to recharge is to step outside. Even a short walk in fresh air can boost well-being and reduce stress. Humboldt County is the perfect place to get away and soak up the winter vibes. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒŠ

The Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail, part of Redwood National and State Parks, is an ideal place for visitors to unwind. Located just off Highway 101 near Orick, this easy, family-friendly 1.5-mile loop winds through old growth redwoods and other tall conifers has been a popular destination for decades. It is the perfect place for a quiet, calming nature walk.

One unique feature of this trail is that, within just a few steps, you can move from a second growth forest into an old growth redwood forest. Learn more about the Lady Bird Johnson Trail by visiting the National Park Service's website at nps.gov/Places/LBTTrailhead.htm.

Humboldt County is a truly unique and breathtakingly beautiful place. World-renowned as the home of the iconic giant coastal redwoods, it has long inspired nature lovers, artists, writers and musicians alike. Half of the planetโ€™s remaining old-growth redwoods thrive here in Humboldtโ€™s majestic forests.

But the redwoods are just one part of what makes Humboldt unforgettable for visitors of all ages, abilities and interests. Where the forest meets the ocean, more than 100 miles of pristine and rugged coastline offer sandy adventures, scenic coastal hikes and peaceful moments with family and friends. Wild rivers flow through Humboldt County, inviting exploration and adventure. From the legendary Lost Coast and accessible Clam Beach County Park in the west to Bigfoot Country in the east, each corner of Humboldt has its own distinct charm and countless things to discover.
