Standing on the beach tonight with my wife, daughter, and neighbors in the City of Cape Canaveral, watching Artemis II rise into the sky, I had to stop and take it in.

I had just gotten out of a meeting with our city manager and team of city staff, who watched the launch from the roof of City Hall. How cool is that?

I grew up around the space program, and this means a lot to me and our community. My family has been part of this for most of my life. My mom worked on the black thermal tiles on the shuttle.

I have neighbors who are part of this program, doing the work that makes these missions possible. From administration, to engineering, to those who helped fit and prepare the space suits for astronauts.

Today, my aunt and uncle, and many others are still part of it. So many friends and families, along with the astronauts themselves, have called this place home.

This is who we are.

For the first time in more than 50 years, astronauts are heading back toward the Moon on a 10 day mission around it and back, preparing for what comes next.

It is not a landing, but it is the step that makes it possible.

Watching it lift off over the Atlantic reminds you how special this place really is. We do not just watch history here. We are part of it.

We are the Space Coast.

I love my city.

Grateful to be here. Grateful to share it with all of you.
