Mounna is a refugee and a mother of six. When violence forced her to flee Sudan, she arrived at Koursigué Refugee Site carrying what so many displaced families carry: love for her children and a fierce hope for their future.
Then her 7‑month‑old, Mabourka, grew seriously ill and began losing weight. During a World Relief home visit, our team screened her children, provided nutrition counseling, and helped her get prompt care through a referral to the local health facility.
Through hands-on nutrition sessions, Mounna learned how to make enriched porridge using local ingredients — practical steps that helped her children regain energy and appetite, and helped Mabourka begin to recover.
This World Refugee Awareness Month, we’re inspired by refugees like Mounna who remind us: courage doesn’t require certainty, it requires community.
