A federal court has once again blocked an unlawful USPS rule that threatened to disrupt mail-in voting ahead of the November election. This preliminary injunction follows a temporary restraining order granted by the district court last week, blocking the rule while the states’ lawsuit against the unlawful rule proceeds.

This ruling is another step in protecting eligible voters from last-minute requirements that could have delayed or rejected their ballots. I’ll keep fighting to protect Marylanders’ right to vote.

A former home healthcare employee pleaded guilty to felony public health fraud for submitting over $25,000 in false Medicaid claims. She falsely claimed to be providing services while working another job or out of the country. She was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but time served suspended, and ordered to pay restitution.

Every fraudulent Medicaid claim drains resources from Marylanders who rely on home healthcare to live safely and with dignity. My Office will continue rooting out fraud that exploits this vital program and the people who depend on it.

My Statement on Supreme Court of Maryland Redistricting Ruling:

“I commend the attorneys and staff of the Office of the Attorney General who successfully defended the constitutional amendment approved by the General Assembly. As Maryland’s chief legal officer, I have a responsibility to defend the constitutionality and legal sufficiency of measures enacted or approved by the General Assembly when they are challenged in court, and our team carried out that responsibility with skill and professionalism.

“With today’s ruling, the question will remain on the ballot, and Maryland voters will have the opportunity to decide the matter for themselves in November.”

The Trump administration has finalized a rule that would prohibit federal Medicaid and CHIP reimbursement for gender-affirming care for transgender youth, even though the same healthcare treatment is covered when provided to non-transgender youth. The rule takes effect October 13.

I’m joining a coalition of 22 states in suing to block it. The federal government should not override individualized healthcare decisions made by medical professionals without congressional authorization. My Office will continue defending access to healthcare for Maryland’s transgender youth and their families.

An insurance agent pleaded guilty to felony theft and insurance fraud after submitting 21 fake insurance applications using Hispanic surnames. He admitted he chose those names because he believed the company would assume the applicants were undocumented and wouldn’t verify the Social Security numbers he provided.

He stole more than $5,000 in commission payments through the scheme. My Office investigated and prosecuted this case because fraud has no place in Maryland’s insurance market.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing sweeping changes that could weaken protections for workers and communities.

One proposal would increase the levels of radiation workers, and the public, could legally be exposed to and eliminate a decades-old radiation protection standard. Another would allow large parts of nuclear power plants to be built without environmental review or community input.

Semi-trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles are a significant source of harmful air pollution. Now, the EPA is proposing to weaken rules that limit those emissions.

If finalized, the changes would increase pollution and disproportionately harm low-income communities and communities of color that already face greater exposure from living, working, or attending school near major roadways and other pollution sources.

I’m joining a coalition opposing this proposal. Marylanders deserve clean air, and EPA should not weaken protections that help keep it that way.
