On 8th and 9th May at The Old Brewery Studios in King's Cliffe, PE86XB , we have the pleasure of hosting Helen Leaf, who will be teaching Ply-Split Braiding.
Helen's work can be seen on her instagram page or on her website www.helenleafdesigns.com
The workshop is an introduction to ply-split braiding and gives a good grounding in the key structures that are used. Start simply and build gradually making braids, small projects and a basket- these will all embody certain skills and techniques.
Ply-Split braiding is a unique and innovative textile technique, a kind of off loom weaving where high-twist cords go through the centre of or are split by other cords. During the course you work with wool, cotton and linen to get the feel of these different materials.
Helen will explain the origins and traditions of the technique and you'll see examples of what's possible when it becomes a contemporary craft. Hopefully you'll leave with an appreciation of what has gone before, and with inspiration for future work.
The course runs from 9.30am-4.30pm and the cost is £240 including materials, tea, coffee and cake. You need to B.Y.O. lunch.
For bookings contact Sue Kirk by sending a message including your email and i'll send you further details by email.

Sustainable textile artist Rosalind Stoddart weaves, felts and stitches these adorably soft cushions using the fleece of her alpacas. Rosalind grows plants specifically for their dyes and uses them to colour the white alpaca fleece. The results are sumptuous tactile pieces which are not only visually gorgeous but also hugely comforting to touch. We are delighted to have Rosalind's work on sale at The Old Brewery Studios until 21st December.

We are open all day tomorrow from 9am-5pm.
