Proud to reflect on what we’ve accomplished together during my time in office! One of the milestones I’m especially honored to have championed was introducing the item that formally recognized May as Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Long Beach. 🌏🎉

This was more than just a proclamation—it was a step toward celebrating the vibrant history, culture, and invaluable contributions of the AAPI community to our city and beyond. It reinforced the importance of acknowledging the diversity that makes Long Beach such a special place to call home.

Representation matters, and ensuring our city celebrates and honors the voices, stories, and achievements of all its communities has always been a priority for me. It’s moments like these that remind us how our collective efforts can make a lasting impact.

I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to uplift and support our diverse communities throughout my time in office. Together, we’ve shown that unity and inclusion are what truly make us stronger. 💙

to one of my favorite annual events, “Celebrate the Eighth”! 🎉

This unforgettable gathering was all about celebrating the incredible small and local businesses, residents, and organizations that make our Eighth District community so special. 🌟 It was a privilege to recognize and honor those who went above and beyond to create a positive impact in our district throughout the years.

With approximately 300 attendees, the event brought people together to connect, collaborate, and showcase their talents. Businesses had the opportunity to share their menus, distribute business cards, and build lasting relationships with residents and fellow organizations.

I was truly honored to spend time personally thanking so many of the remarkable individuals and businesses that have contributed to our district’s growth and success. Grateful for these memories and the chance to celebrate the heart of our community!

to 2016, when we celebrated the dedication of the beautiful NOAA mural with local city leaders and residents! 🎨✂️ This vibrant public art piece, unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, was more than just a mural—it was a tribute to NOAA’s vital mission of preserving and protecting our environment.

The mural brought together the talents of incredible artists and the support of our community to create a powerful visual reminder of the importance of sustainability, conservation, and environmental education.

Looking back, I’m proud of the collaboration and shared vision that made this project a reality. It’s a lasting testament to our commitment to both art and the environment, inspiring future generations to cherish and protect our natural resources. 💙

🎉✨What an unforgettable evening! Last night, I had the privilege of celebrating 12 incredible years serving the people of District 8 and the City of Long Beach. It was truly humbling to be surrounded by so many friends, family members, city leaders, and community partners who have been part of this journey with me.

Your kind words, support, and shared commitment to our city mean the world to me. Together, we’ve achieved so much, and I’m proud of what we’ve built and the progress we’ve made for our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and for making this such a special night. It’s been an honor to serve, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me over the years. Here’s to a bright future for District 8 and all of Long Beach! 🌟

As part of an ongoing commitment to enhancing Long Beach’s infrastructure and promoting sustainable transportation, Councilmember Al Austin championed the Market Street Corridor Improvements project. This initiative, completed in 2023, brought significant upgrades to the 2.2-mile stretch between the Los Angeles River and Cherry Avenue.

Enhancements included:

➡️Improved Pedestrian Safety: New sidewalks, curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, and rapid flashing beacons ensure safer pedestrian travel.
➡️Enhanced Cycling Infrastructure: Protected bike lanes and shared lane markings provide cyclists with safer and more convenient routes.
➡️Streetscape Beautification: Landscaping and urban design elements contribute to a more aesthetically pleasing and welcoming corridor.

This $11 million investment reflects a dedication to creating safer, more accessible, and sustainable transportation options in North Long Beach. Councilmember Austin’s leadership in this project underscores a commitment to community well-being and urban revitalization.

Who knew twelve years could fly by so fast? 😅 Last night, I was honored to be recognized for my service on the City Council. It’s been a wild ride, filled with late nights, early mornings, and countless cups of coffee.

But it’s all been worth it to serve the amazing people of the Great Eighth. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.

In 2021, Councilmember Al Austin and his colleagues took a stand by introducing an item that formally recognized Juneteenth as a holiday in Long Beach.

Their efforts led to a resolution urging both the state and federal governments to officially recognize Juneteenth as a holiday.

This action reflected Long Beach’s commitment to:

➡️ Celebrating diversity
➡️ Supporting social justice and equity
➡️ Fostering mutual respect and understanding for all

Thanks to their leadership, Juneteenth is now a day of celebration in Long Beach, commemorating the end of slavery and honoring African American freedom and culture.
