Ambassador Mori was honored to meet with H.E. Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Founder and Chairman of Rasmussen Global, former Secretary General of NATO, and former Prime Minister of Denmark. Our conversation was rich, forward-looking, and deeply engaging, touching on the health of democracy, the values we share, and the many ways Japan and European partners, including Denmark, can work even more closely together.

We discussed the importance of safeguarding democracy and the rules-based international order, as well as practical avenues to deepen cooperation. In an era of rapid change, strengthening these partnerships is more vital than ever to ensure peace, prosperity, and stability.

We are grateful for Mr. Rasmussen’s insights and leadership, and we look forward to building on this dialogue to translate shared priorities into concrete collaboration for the benefit of our citizens. 🇯🇵🇩🇰🇪🇺

🇯🇵⚽ FIFA World Cup 2026 Public Viewing in Copenhagen ⚽🇩🇰

Fodboldfesten 2026 will take place at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen from 11 June to 19 July 2026, in partnership with TV2, offering a large-scale public viewing experience for football fans!

We are pleased to highlight that Japan will play its World Cup match against the Netherlands on 14 June 2026. Fans in Denmark are invited to come together to follow the match on a big screen in a vibrant and inclusive open-air setting. ✨

📍 Location: Islands Brygge, Copenhagen
🗓 Date: 14 June 2026
🕕 Venue opens: 18:00 | Kick-off: 22:00

The event will feature a festive atmosphere with fan activities, music, and community engagement throughout the evening, alongside the live screening of the match. We warmly encourage fans to come and support the team in these matches as well! 🇯🇵🔥

Ambassador Mori was honoured to be invited to the home of architect Jan Utzon and his wife, Anne-Christine — set in a magnificent natural forest and seamlessly integrated into its surroundings. Following in Jørn Utzon’s footsteps — architect of the Sydney Opera House — Jan has long engaged with Japanese architecture and culture and has visited Japan many times.

They spoke about the Utzon family’s lifelong dialogue with Japan, especially the shared ideal of harmonising architecture with nature. The house felt familiar to Japanese eyes: a lattice motif, elegant sliding glass doors opening onto a south-facing terrace, and a design that frames the landscape as borrowed scenery — a Danish home in a language many in Japan would recognise.

Their conversation ranged from the cultural affinities between Denmark and Japan — a shared respect for long traditions and the institutions that embody them — to the Sydney Opera House (the Ambassador previously served in Australia) and Jan’s work in Zimbabwe, Angola and Mozambique. Time flew.

A small detail we loved: the entrance plaque reading “建築設計士” (architect), a gift to Jørn Utzon from a Japanese colleague — a quiet symbol of friendship across continents and generations.

Our warm thanks to Jan and Anne-Christine for their gracious hospitality. We look forward to deepening Japanese-Danish ties in architecture and culture.

On June 4, Ambassador Mori joined a field study tour with the Danish Agriculture & Food Council on the very day Denmark’s Ministry of Agriculture became the new Ministry for Nature and Animal Welfare—making the visit very memorable.

First stop: a pig farm 🐖 that goes beyond Denmark’s national animal-welfare standards. In Denmark, qualifying products carry the Government’s “Green Heart” label—💚 for meeting basic standards, 💚💚 for higher welfare, and 💚💚💚 for outdoor-raised pigs.

With Denmark set to tighten both CO2 taxes and nitrogen rules, it was inspiring to see farmers and industry working together—sharing knowledge and innovating—to meet these goals collectively. 🌿

Next, we visited FOSS, a leader in analytical solutions for food and agriculture. Their technologies help improve quality and consistency by measuring milk, wine, beer, meat fat content, mycotoxins—and even sake. 🧪🍶 FOSS has had a branch office in Japan for over 50 years, and our friendly relationship has continued to grow over the years. 🤝

Takeaway: data-driven production is becoming indispensable—and we see even greater potential for Japan–Denmark cooperation in the agricultural field going forward. 📊🤝

Congratulations on the successful book event with Asako Yuzuki, author of the international bestseller “BUTTER” (Danish title: “SMØR”), and Mette Holm, the book’s Danish translator! 🎉🐄

The talk event was absolutely buzzing, and people seemed to really enjoy the conversation they had on the stage.

We’re delighted to see the growing enthusiasm for Japanese literature in Denmark, including Asako Yuzuki’s compelling works and Mette Holm’s elegant translations. 📚

Ambassador Mori had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Yuzuki and Ms. Holm after the event.　Our conversation ranged from food to the distinctive cultural sensibilities in Japan and Denmark.

During Professor Emeritus Ryosei Kokubun’s visit to Denmark (Keio University; former President of the National Defence Academy of Japan), Ambassador Mori hosted an in-depth discussion at the Ambassador’s Residence with Professor Kokubun, Professor Kjeld Erik Brødsgaard (Copenhagen Business School), and Professor Mikkel Vedby Rasmussen (University of Copenhagen).

Their conversation spanned regional dynamics in Asia, Japan–Denmark relations, and Denmark’s current policy landscape. Scholarly exchanges like this—grounded in evidence and open dialogue—are vital to deepening mutual understanding, informing sound policymaking, and strengthening the intellectual foundations of the Japan–Denmark partnership.

We are grateful to the professors for their insights and look forward to continuing this dialogue to advance cooperation between Japan and Denmark.

Ambassador Mori attended the 16th Japanese Scandinavian Radiological Society Symposium held in Copenhagen on 3 June. He congratulated the organizers and welcomed the many doctors and researchers from Japan who joined this historic gathering of the Japan–Scandinavian Radiological Society, established in Japan in 1986.

Ambassador Mori expressed deep appreciation to Professor Søren Rafaelsen of the University of Southern Denmark, the Organizing Committee, and all staff and participants for their dedication. He praised the longstanding academic and clinical collaboration between Japan and the Nordic countries. As Japan and Denmark confront shared challenges such as aging societies and cancer care—and as imaging and therapy rapidly advance—there is a clear need for two-way exchanges, scholarships, and joint research to improve patient care and nurture the next generation of medical talent.

The Embassy of Japan in Denmark will continue to support medical and academic collaboration by facilitating networking and institutional partnerships. We look forward to new ideas and partnerships emerging from this symposium that will benefit patients, advance international standards, and further strengthen Japan–Denmark and Japan–Nordic relations. Celebrating Nordic Excellence and Japan–Denmark Culinary Exchange

On June 1, Ambassador Mori was honored to attend “MICHELIN Guide Restaurant Ceremony Nordic Countries 2026,” where many outstanding Danish restaurants were recognized—truly inspiring to witness.

There are a total of six three-star restaurants in Northern Europe, three of which are in Denmark. Danish culinary culture has been praised for highlighting ingredients, showcasing the seasons, and masterfully combining natural flavors. This is exactly what Japanese cuisine is all about!

Japan and Denmark share a deep culinary connection. Many Japanese chefs contribute to Denmark’s fine dining scene, while Danish chefs draw inspiration from traditional Japanese cuisine such as kaiseki. Japanese craftsmanship—like chef’s khocho (Japanese kitchen knives)—is also widely embraced in Danish kitchens.

Among this year’s One Star recipients is akmē in Copenhagen, a standout that blends Japanese culinary traditions with French techniques. Its achievement highlights how our food cultures continue to learn from each other and thrive together on the global stage.

We are delighted to see the Japan–Denmark culinary exchange growing across the full spectrum—from fine dining to everyday Japanese dishes like ramen, onigiri, sushi, and tonkatsu. Congratulations to all the awarded restaurants, and warm wishes for continued success!

On 28 May, Ambassador Mori visited Skovgaard Energy （in collaboration with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation) in Northern Jutland to explore cutting-edge renewable solutions and the path toward a greener society. We also had the pleasure of meeting Mayor Bredal of Struer and Mayor Tønning of Holstebro.
Skovgaard Energy is turning wind and solar power into clean electricity and storing it as green ammonia for future use. The inauguration of their ammonia plant drew around 1,700 participants, including many local residents—clear evidence of the company’s deep roots in the community.
Working hand in hand with nearby farmers, Maabjerg Biogas, one of Skovgaard Energy's projects, produces biogas from livestock manure and food waste, creating a truly circular, local energy ecosystem.
In the future, they will also begin producing green aviation fuel ”e-SAF”, which plays a key role in reducing aviation's carbon footprint.

As collaboration with Japanese companies continues to grow, we remain committed to supporting Japanese business activities in Denmark and to strengthening partnerships that accelerate a more sustainable future together.
