The ground roared.
Our homes shook.
Then the lights went out.

For months, our lives revolved around fear and despair, and in every moment our world literally moved, we were forced to bury our heads and hope, deeper into the ground.

But passion and positivity found their way through the cracks, and the stories that once told of struggle now tell of strength and survival, surging through the ruins and the piles of rubble.

The sleepless nights spent inside makeshift homes and tents turned into nights of shaping records to reports, and ultimately into tales of truth and inspiration. This issue does not just document the highs of a good harvest; it chronicles the painful parts of allowing steady growth even on shaking grounds.

RISING FROM THE RUBBLE

After the 6.9 earthquake rocked our corridors and classroom walls, the curtains closed, and classes paused. Silence echoed where lessons and loud laughter once lived. But beneath the piles of rubble rose stories of overcoming grief, of turning fear into fortitude, and of continued strength to stand firm on shaking ground.

Roughly four weeks after the magnitude 6.9 earthquake jolted northern Cebu, with series of strong aftershocks that still continue, more cracks have already become vivid and visible — from the walls of our classrooms and corridors, to the learning curves of many students.

The sudden shift to alternative learning delivery modes has posed various challenges to many learners and educators. With students still coping from the trauma of surviving deadly tremors, to lining up for relief packs in the streets, and living in makeshift homes, going back to school might seem to be a stretch and a difficult path for many.

But the best way in getting out of these ruins is by moving forward.

Yes, recovery will take time. Healing isn't going to be easy. Many things are still uncertain but together, we can turn fear into faith, and slowly rise above this calamity and the troubles it left.

We have already made small but significant steps this week. We took on the challenge and burnt our midnight oils inside our tents and temporary homes, complied with our course requirements, and took our major examinations, even when aftershocks continue to disrupt us.

They were not easy, but we were able to accomplish them all, because of our goals and our shared vision of a better future.

Hand in hand, we will rebuild our homes and hopes together. But for now, let us enjoy our health break and take care of ourselves.

Abante ta, AlTorians! 🫶🙏

It feels like just yesterday!

This may not be the usual internship we used to have and know—a full-month cycle filled with face-to-face lectures, morning rushes, and chalk-stained hands. But through this new set-up, one thing shone through: how education truly means to them and how deeply the spirit of teaching beats within the hearts of our student interns from Cebu Normal University.

Now that their journey with Almacen-Torrevillas National High School comes to an end, we feel both proud and a little sentimental.

They haven’t only shared their knowledge but have also left an inspiration in every classroom they stepped into before the quake, and in every online room they entered afterward. Now, as they move to new beginnings, we wish them nothing but meaningful success. The ATNHS family always hopes that they will continue to inspire, to teach, and to grow wherever life takes them next.

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS.

Today, Almacen-Torrevillas National High School held its convocation for the first quarter of S.Y. 2025-2026—a seemingly small yet meaningful milestone for the learners, and most especially their guardians and parents.

Excitement and enthusiasm filled the senior high school campus. At exactly 8 AM, despite the drizzle, the program started. After messages of inspiration and support, and a thorough presentation on the liquidation of funds of the previous school year, the clouds finally cleared, just in time for the giving of certificates of recognition.

Applause after applause. Cheers after cheers.

This year’s convocation and card day is proof that anything is possible if we persist and pursue our goals.

It’s also a celebration of the hard work, sleepless nights, and unwavering support that our parents have poured into filling our cups. And whether we made it to the honors list or not, our efforts are worth recognizing and acknowledging.

So to all AlTorians, congratulations to all of us, and let’s do better in the new academic quarter. ❤️
