After over 9600 hours in the “front room” of Mission Control as an OSO, TITAN, and Flight Director, for the International Space Station, Artemis I, and Boeing Starliner, today I served my last shift on console. I’m humbled and honored to have been able to do this as a flight controller for 23 years, 14.5 as a certified FD.

My journey’s not over yet, though. I’ll be working on NASA's Gateway Program - getting the first element on its way to the Moon. In a couple of years, I’ll gladly help hand the keys of our next space station over to the next generation of flight controllers and Flight Directors.

A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of being invited to teach University of Michigan physics students about Mission Control, International Space Station, Artemis, and the challenges of going to the Moon and Beyond. Always great to visit my alma mater. !

I’m still just the fanboy like I was in 3rd grade - excited, honored, and humbled to be able to help put people into space and explore what’s out there.

Today is National STEM/STEAM Day, which is designed to inspire kids in exploring and pursuing their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. A fine example can be found at NASA's Johnson Space Center, where Flight Director Carbon Flight - Ed Van Cise is a leader in human space exploration. Van Cise is also a proud member of the Space Camp Hall of Fame, adding to his desire to inspire adults and kids alike.
