This week we are watching the weather as Tropical Cyclone Fausto passes just north of our islands. Fausto could still cause isolated flooding on Thursday so we continue to keep an eye on it. There is currently no wind threat in relation to Fausto, but we remain careful and cautious.

August 3 is the first day of school for our public school students, have a great school year and drive safely on the busy morning roads!

We are also taking big steps towards our goal of 50,000 affordable housing units with the opening of Koa Vista Phase II.

Consul-General Greg Wilcock was pleased to join Hawaiʻi Governor Josh Green and members of Consular Corps of Hawaiʻi for a discussion on “Hawaiʻi and the World.” 🌏🌺

The conversation explored Hawaiʻi’s international engagement and opportunities to strengthen connections across the Pacific, including:

• Hawaiʻi’s international partnerships and Memoranda of Understanding;
• opportunities to deepen sister-state relationships and practical cooperation;
• the impact of changes in U.S. federal policy on Hawaiʻi and its international engagement; and
• new state and federal initiatives with implications for Hawaiʻi’s relationships across the region.

As close Pacific neighbours, Australia and Hawaiʻi share strong ties across defence and security, trade, education, tourism, research and people-to-people links.

Mahalo Governor Green and Consular Corps of Hawaiʻi for the opportunity to exchange perspectives on strengthening these connections and working together to support a peaceful, stable and prosperous region. 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇸🌺🤙🏝️

Bill-signing season has come to a close, and I’m proud of the progress we made for Hawaiʻi’s people. New laws will strengthen our local film industry and create jobs, expand support for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and erase $91 million in medical debt for Hawaiʻi families.

Through it all, we have protected the state’s Rainy Day Fund so Hawaiʻi is prepared when disaster strikes. As we approach three years since the Maui wildfires and continue recovering from recent floods, we remain committed to standing together, caring for one another and moving Hawaiʻi forward.

I also enjoyed spending time at the Native Hawaiian Convention, where we had important conversations about expanding opportunity, advancing Native Hawaiian priorities and building a stronger future together.

This past Saturday, I’m proud to say we awarded another 815 Hawaiian Home Lands project leases — 400 in Waimānalo, 400 in ʻEwa and 15 in Nānākuli. It’s another major step forward as we work to fulfill the promise of Hawaiian Home Lands and get beneficiaries home as quickly as possible.

The progress has been remarkable. In 2015, just 15 leases were awarded statewide. Last year, we awarded more than 2,500, and this year we’re on track to award more than 3,000 leases — the most in the history of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

None of this would be possible without the incredible team at the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, Director Kali Watson, our Hawaiian Homes Commission, and the Native Hawaiian community, whose patience, perseverance and commitment continue to inspire this work. We’re not slowing down.

Governor Josh Green has ordered the United States flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag to be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawaiʻi National Guard, effective immediately through sunset on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in honor of U.S. Army 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan of ʻEwa Beach.

Feehan, 25, was identified by the Pentagon as one of two U.S. service members killed in Jordan during an Iranian missile attack on a military base. He was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

“First Lieutenant Feehan served our nation with courage and made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Governor Green. “Jaime and I extend our deepest condolences to his ʻohana, friends and fellow service members. His death is a painful reminder of the human cost of war. Hawaiʻi mourns alongside them and will always remember his bravery and selfless service.”

This week was a busy one, it’s the end of bill signing season and I signed seven bills with two more being signed today that aim to better the lives for the people of Hawaiʻi.

Todayʻs bills, SB 2999 and HB 2021 will create a clean fuel standard for alternative fuels in the state and establish new safe riding behaviors for e-bikes.

I canʻt wait to see how these bills will create positive change for Hawai‘i!
