Hello Education Advocates..,
As we get closer to the midterm elections, a primary goal of our group is to elect Sylvia Wright as the next SC Superintendent of Education. Below you will find her ambitious schedule for the rest of August. As you can see, she will be all over the state meeting with concerned people of SC. As voters who are focused on education, it is important that you support Sylvia at an event. If possible, please plan to attend. Let’s make her election successful!

A goal of our caucus is to keep you informed regarding educational issues both in SC and nationally. Please look for these periodic messages and feel free to forward to all you think would be receptive.
Stay engaged and support public schools!

Tennessee is at the bottom in education. As you read the article, you will see they are investing in vouchers and public education is going downhill. We need PUBLIC EDUCATION in SC.

Group with ties to state's GOP leadership, including Gov. candidate Marsha Blackburn, looks to expand influence on state policy

VOTING MATTERS. Annie Andrews and Nancy Lacour should be elected in SC.

“ Medicaid cuts directly impact school budgets, where it can mean fewer nurses, fewer counselors, fewer therapists, and less support for students who need care during the school day.

Medicaid provides billions of dollars for health services in public schools every year. It helps districts pay for preventive screenings, behavioral health care, speech and occupational therapy, physical therapy, and services for students with disabilities.

When that funding is lost, schools remain responsible for many of those services. District leaders are forced to search for money elsewhere, placing classroom staffing, after-school programs, academic supports, and other essential resources under even greater pressure.

That is the threat created by the Trump administration’s Medicaid agenda. Nearly $915 billion in federal Medicaid spending is being stripped away over the next decade, leaving states and communities to absorb the damage.”

Thoughtful perspective from a CCSD school board candidate.

The role of public education in democracy was a topic in Char’s conversation with Will McCorkle’s “Education Policy Summer Conversations” for his graduate course on Policies and Issues in Contemporary Education.
