More than 66,000 Pakistanis travelled abroad for employment during July and August 2026, according to official data from the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment. A total of 66,815 workers went abroad during the two-month period.

The data shows that 39,159 Pakistanis travelled abroad for jobs in July, while 27,656 went overseas in August. The August figure was 11,503 lower than July, showing a month-on-month decline in overseas worker departures.

Alongside overseas employment, domestic economic opportunities are also being supported through interest-free financing. In August, the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund issued 5,169 interest-free loans worth Rs381 million for small businesses, self-employment and financial inclusion. Housing and agricultural financing initiatives are also being expanded.

The figures highlight the continued importance of both international employment and local financing opportunities for Pakistanis seeking better income and career prospects.

Hyderabad Airport is set for a major revival after remaining without commercial passenger flights since 2013. Under the proposed upgrade, the airport could serve as an alternate facility for Karachi, Sukkur and Nawabshah during emergenc!es and adverse weather conditions.

The proposed plan includes extending the runway from 7,000 feet to 11,500 feet, which would allow larger aircraft, including Boeing 777s, to operate from the airport. Passenger facilities are also expected to be improved as part of the upgrade.

The project could also support the possible return of domestic flights and the launch of regional services, potentially strengthening Hyderabad's position as an aviation hub in Sindh. During disruptions at nearby airports, flights could potentially be diverted to Hyderabad, with passengers transported by road to Karachi and other destinations.

Earlier in September, the Pakistan Airports Authority had also presented plans to upgrade Hyderabad Airport and extend its runway as part of wider aviation development projects in Sindh.

Customs officials at Karachi Airport have seized foreign currency worth approximately Rs. 11.8 million from a woman passenger traveling to Dubai.

According to officials, the passenger was traveling on a private airline flight and allegedly provided incorrect information and a false declaration regarding the currency she was carrying.

A search of her luggage reportedly led to the recovery of multiple currencies, including $33,600, €300, £2,570 and AED 19,815. The total value of the recovered currency was assessed at around Rs. 11.8 million.

Customs officials se!zed the currency under the Customs Act, 1969, following the alleged incorrect declaration. An FIR has also been registered against the passenger, while further legal proceedings are underway.

The case highlights the importance of following applicable currency declaration and customs requirements when traveling internationally.

Massage chairs, foot massagers, massage guns and other massage equipment may become more expensive in Pakistan after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) raised their customs values at the import stage.

The revised customs values will be used to assess duties and taxes on imported products. The new valuation covers massage chairs and other massaging equipment under PCT 9019.1000. FBR's valuation process considers factors such as import data, product specifications, market information and prevailing prices.

Under the new valuation framework, products have been divided into six categories. Massage chairs are classified based on factors including their models, technology, specifications and features rather than brand name alone.

The change means importers may face higher duty and tax assessments, which could eventually affect retail prices depending on how the additional costs are passed through to consumers.

A rare Islamic calendar event is expected in 2039, when Muslims could witness three Eid celebrations and two Hajj seasons within the same Gregorian year.

Current calendar calculations show the first Hajj season and Eid al-Adha are expected in January 2039. Eid al-Fitr is then expected in October, followed by another Hajj season and Eid al-Adha in December.

The unusual pattern is possible because the Islamic Hijri calendar follows the lunar cycle. A Hijri year is around 10 to 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, causing Islamic dates to move earlier each year.

According to current projections, the first Eid al-Adha could fall around January 5, Eid al-Fitr around October 19, and the second Eid al-Adha around December 26, 2039. These dates are calendar estimates and may vary depending on moon sighting and official announcements.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has proposed changes that could bring telecom package prices and market conditions under closer regulatory review in Pakistan.

The proposal is part of the draft Telecommunication Competition Rules, 2026, prepared by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. Under the proposed framework, PTA could periodically review and redefine relevant telecom markets when changes in market conditions, technology, services or industry trends make it necessary.

The draft defines a relevant telecom market as a product, service or geographic market identified by PTA for assessing competition. The authority may consider factors such as consumer demand, alternative services, pricing behavior, technological developments, barriers to entry, network effects and access conditions.

The proposed periodic review mechanism could allow PTA to reassess how telecom companies compete and how different services are categorized as the sector evolves.

The proposal does not itself announce any immediate change in telecom package prices. Instead, it would provide a framework for reviewing market conditions, including pricing patterns, as part of broader competition assessment.

Elon Musk’s estimated wealth jumped by $61 billion in a single day, reaching around $979.7 billion, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list. The sharp increase was linked to gains in Tesla and SpaceX valuations.

According to Forbes, Musk’s fortune increased by 6.64% compared with the previous trading day. SpaceX shares were up more than 7%, while Tesla shares gained around 5% during the trading session.

The latest rise has brought Musk close to the $1 trillion mark again, showing how quickly billionaire wealth can change as company valuations and financial markets move. Forbes has previously reported that Musk became the world’s first trillionaire in June 2026 following SpaceX’s public-market debut.

Musk’s businesses include Tesla, SpaceX and other technology ventures, making his estimated fortune closely connected to the value of his company holdings.

The federal government has extended the deployment of Pakistan Rangers in Islamabad and parts of Punjab until October 15, 2026, amid preparations for PTI’s planned march towards the capital.

In Islamabad, around 3,000 Rangers personnel will continue assisting the Islamabad Capital Territory Police with law-and-order duties. The deployment had previously been authorised until October 5, with the new extension covering another 10 days.

Rangers have also been deployed in several Punjab districts, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali, following requests from the Islamabad administration and Punjab government.

The security extension comes as PTI begins its planned October 4 march towards Islamabad. Authorities have increased security preparations in the capital, including placing containers at key routes and reinforcing police personnel.

The government and opposition have held talks over the planned march, but the negotiations have so far failed to produce a clear resolution, with PTI maintaining its plans to proceed.

The extended deployment is intended to support law-and-order arrangements during a period of heightened political activity in the capital and surrounding areas.

Elon Musk has sparked a fresh online debate after saying, “Instagram is for girls,” while responding to a post describing the Meta-owned platform as an “inherently female app.”

Musk made the remark on X on October 1 after venture capital firm Geiger Capital said it had deleted Instagram and described the platform as having little benefit for men. His short response quickly spread across social media, drawing both support and criti-cism.

Critics argued that the comment reinforces outdated gender stereotypes and overlooks Instagram’s broad user base. Others viewed the statement as another example of Musk’s ongoing ri-valry with Meta and its social media platforms.

The remark is also not new. Musk made a similar statement about Instagram in May, when his comments also triggered criti*cism and debate over how social media platforms are associated with gender.

The episode highlights how competition between major technology platforms can increasingly spill into public conversations about users, culture and online identity.
