First Outdoor Formation!

The Brigade of Midshipmen gathered for the first outdoor noon meal formation of the semester, continuing one of the Naval Academy’s longstanding daily traditions. The formation brings the Brigade together while reinforcing military discipline, accountability, and the sense of unity that defines life on the Yard.

🏃 Annapolis 10-Miler: Traffic Impacts — Sunday, Aug. 30

The 51st annual Annapolis 10-Miler will bring approximately 3,500 runners to the area Sunday morning. Expect traffic impacts around USNA and NSA Annapolis from approximately 7–9:30 a.m.

🚧 Gate 1: Metered vehicle traffic from 7:15–8 a.m. Normal weekend operations resume at 8 a.m.
🚧 Gate 8/Naval Academy Bridge: Closed to vehicles, except emergency response, from 7:15–9:30 a.m.
🚧 North Severn: Traffic restrictions and closures on portions of Route 648 from approximately 7:30–8:45 a.m.

Pedestrian access will not be affected.

Gate 1 access before 8 a.m.: Drivers should use MD-2 South → MD-665 East → Bay Ridge Ave → Sixth St. Follow police directions. Only credentialed drivers will be permitted to proceed toward USNA Gate 1.

The Class of 2027 gathered for a Commandant Call with Capt. Clint Cornell, the 92nd Commandant of Midshipmen.

As the Brigade's senior class, firsties play a vital role in setting high standards and leading by example as they prepare for their final year at the U.S. Naval Academy and their future as commissioned officers in the U.S Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. 🫡

There’s something for everyone at the U.S. Naval Academy.

From club sports and performing arts to professional organizations and special interest groups, the ECA Fair introduces midshipmen to the many extracurricular activities available on the Yard. These opportunities allow midshipmen to pursue their passions, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships beyond the classroom.

As the Brigade returns to the halls, today’s will feature 3rd Company Commander, Kevin Kucik.

Hailing from Las Vegas, Kevin came to the academy inspired by his family’s example.

“I first started thinking about the service academies because of my sister who was a Class of 2025 USAFA graduate. Being able to see her go to an Academy made me want to follow in her footsteps. My cousin is a Master Chief on a carrier as well. Talking to him and hearing about his experiences is what really pulled me toward the Navy. I knew I wanted to serve and do something meaningful, so the Naval Academy just felt like the right path for me.”

A Quantitative Economics major, Kevin spends his free time playing pickleball, snowboarding, playing on the Club Soccer team and serving as the Parachute Team’s executive officer.

As an aspiring Naval Aviator, he is most excited to spend Firstie year with all of his friends before he graduates. His favorite memories from his time at USNA were the Parachute Team Spring Break training trips down to Florida every year.

His favorite summer training opportunities while at the Academy include the Powered Flight Program and serving as a Plebe Summer Squad Leader.

U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen completed the inaugural “YP NEXT” training evolution, deploying robotics and autonomous systems directly from our iconic Yard Patrol craft for the first time in history, marking an important milestone in preparing future naval leaders for an increasingly autonomous maritime battlespace. ⚓

From Plebes beginning their first college classes to Firsties embarking on their final year before commissioning, midshipmen are ready to take on another semester of academic excellence, military development, and professional growth.
