UAT REJECTS BUDGET VOTE 1 OF THE PRESIDENCY OVER ACCOUNTABILITY AND GOVERNANCE FAILURES
The United Africans Transformation (UAT) rejects Budget Vote 1 of The Presidency. This rejection is not taken lightly, but is compelled by the persistent and egregious failures of the highest office in the Republic to uphold constitutional obligations and faithfully serve the people of South Africa.
At the outset, the unresolved Phala Phala scandal remains a stain on the integrity of the Presidency. The President stands accused of conduct that raises serious constitutional and ethical questions. The continued failure to provide full accountability has eroded public trust and undermined confidence in the office he occupies. A Presidency clouded by controversy cannot credibly claim to be the guardian of constitutional democracy.
The Constitution demands accountability, transparency, and respect for the rule of law. Yet South Africans continue to witness a widening gap between these principles and the conduct of those entrusted with the nation's highest responsibilities. While millions suffer under unemployment, poverty, crime, collapsing infrastructure, and landlessness, the Presidency has failed to provide decisive leadership capable of addressing the deepening crisis facing our people.
UAT cannot support the allocation of billions of rands to an institution that has failed to meet the standards of constitutional governance and public accountability expected by the citizens of this country. Parliament's responsibility is not to rubber-stamp executive failures, but to exercise oversight in defence of the people and the Constitution.
Our rejection of Budget Vote 1 is therefore a rejection of complacency, a rejection of unaccountable leadership, and a demand for a government that places the interests of South Africans above political expediency.
South Africa deserves a Presidency that restores trust, advances justice, protects constitutional values, and delivers meaningful transformation for all.
Issued by United Africans Transformation President Dr Wonder Mahlatsi
