The unannounced oversight visit conducted by Walter Mngomezulu and NB Khanye at the Fortuna Water Treatment Plant underscores a proactive and accountable approach to governance and service delivery.

This visit reflects a shared commitment by the leadership of Gert Sibande District Municipality and Dipaleseng Local Municipality to ensure that critical infrastructure such as water treatment facilities operates efficiently, consistently, and in compliance with required standards. Conducting the visit without prior notice enabled the Executive Mayors to gain an authentic and transparent understanding of the plant’s day-to-day operations, challenges, and areas requiring immediate intervention.

Such oversight is particularly vital in the context of improving the quality of water output and maintaining sustainable plant operations. Reliable access to safe, clean water remains a fundamental service that directly impacts public health, economic activity, and overall quality of life. By closely monitoring operational performance, maintenance practices, and compliance with water quality standards, the municipalities can identify gaps, enforce accountability, and implement corrective measures where necessary.

Ultimately, the visit reinforces the importance of continuous oversight and responsive leadership in safeguarding service delivery. It highlights an ongoing commitment to ensuring that residents of Dipaleseng receive clean and safe drinking water, while also promoting long-term operational stability and resilience at the Fortuna Water Treatment Plant.

Resuscitation of Augmented Service Delivery Program: Letsema Initiative

On Monday, 30th March 2026, the municipality launched the resuscitation of the ward-based Augmented Service Delivery Program, Letsema, with a significant focus on environmental improvement. The program commenced with the clearing and cleaning of dumping areas in Ward 1 of Siyathemba, marking a key step towards ensuring cleaner, healthier spaces for the community.

This initiative aims to not only address immediate waste management concerns but also to create a lasting impact by fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within local communities. By focusing on the removal of waste and the restoration of affected areas, the program seeks to promote social and environmental well-being for all residents.

In the coming week, the Letsema program will extend its reach to another ward, ensuring the expansion of this vital service across all areas. The municipality remains committed to improving the quality of life for its residents by continuously enhancing service delivery in every ward.

Residents are reminded to play their part in maintaining clean and safe public spaces by refraining from littering. Together, we can create a socially healthy, environmentally safe environment for everyone.
